Bernard,

Drop an email to sales@godfrey.co.uk and they'll help you out (it's how I got my AIO).

All,

As promised before I went on holiday, I arranged a rowing session with Lynsey today at my David Lloyds Lesiure Club. The main purpose of the session was to get Lynsey rowing again and obviously it's always nice to meet fellow team members. Having met Lynsey, it reinforced my view that we've got the friendliest team about!

Hopefully, Lynsey will be inspired to do more rowing (once the stiffness from today's session eases!).

Lynsey says she may even enter the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships so she can meet more Taffs!!

Did a time trial in prep for the Enfield comp. Didn't go to plan as you'll see from my Blog. However, coach is happy with it considering where I am in my training (i.e. no speed work yet, nor taper, nor correct warmup ).
I was tired today and the legs were a little sore so I skipped rowing and just did an easy, short trike ride. Then I read about Carole's 100000m performance and I feel like such a wimp.

Byron

Hi Niall, good on you getting Lynsey down to the gym and back on the erg. Often just what's needed to get going again. Only a few weeks to go (?) before Enfield so we need to see some serious form in those Blog writeups if that 7:08 is going to happen. And Mike W is looking dangerously close to a sub 7 2K soon too ! Holiday's over - time for some life-threatening times

Martin 'Just loafing along watching the Ashes turn to Dust'

I'm a cricket fan anyway, but having the home team doing so well and having such knife-edge matches has really got a lot of normally disinterested people watching.

I really want England to win back the Ashes, of course, but quite honestly I think the victory will be a little hollow if it's just due to time lost to bad light. I want to win or draw this Test fair and square, rather than because we've taken advantage of the weather. For one thing, the Aussies will no doubt be saying "you'd have lost the Test if it weren't for the weather you cowardly poms" or something like that. And I'd have to put my hand up and say "yeah, you may be right". =)

Such nail-biting Test matches I haven't watched for some time. Sure, things get tight in ODIs and Twenty20 matches, but it's less common in Tests.

One thing has really, really annoyed me during the series though... I really wish there wasn't a mic in the stumps, because Gilchrist really frigging annoys me. Every time Warne bowls it's "niiice Shaaaaane" "niiice one Warnieeeeeee" . Thankfully, he shuts up when anyone else is bowling... He must really have the hots for Warne, though.
Hi all

I rowed a cheeky 7k this morning. I think I went a little bit too fast, but never mind. I'll make up for it with a very slow 10k tonight.

regs
Bernard

I really enjoyed it and after the shock of the first 15 minutes on the rower, managed an hour. My back's ok today so I have no excuse for not getting back into the routine. Here's to the next million meters.
Thanks Niall.

Completed my slow row tonight, except I'm finding it difficult to stay slow. Sometimes I get into a rhythm and then look at the monitor to see I'm actually rowing 10-15 secs per 500m faster than I intended. Naturally, I slow down then.

I'm really enjoying the feeling of having to make absolutely no effort at all to get to a gym. It is saving me so much time and money. I find I'm not arguing with myself about whether I want to go the gym, or even about the routine I'm doing. I wish I'd bought one last year. Ah well...

Night everyone. It's night here in England.
Bernard

Good for you for getting back on the erg, Bernard!

I am also just getting going again after spending most of the summer on the bike. I noticed that there is a challenge on for health club member rowers to do either 100K or 200K between 9/15 and 10/15. I am going to do the 100K challenge--even though I can't win a prize, because I'm not rowing at a club--just for something to go for, and since I don't want to be pushing for speed right now. HOpefully this will set me up for the 200K Holiday challenge and I'll be in shape to do some timed pieces while that's going on.

Any other Taffs that are just resuming erging want to do the 100K challenge with me? (it feels silly to even bring it up, with some folks out there doing 100K in a day!) It would really be good for our team standings!

Carla

Sounds like a plan, Carla. I'll be covering at least 200k in that time, I would hope.

I did a half-marathon this morning, before breakfast. I was looking for sub-90 and for a while I was on target, but lack of energy caught up with me and my pace dropped significantly.

Final time was 92:24.6 (2:11.4), but I'm still reasonably happy with it because it's 10 minutes faster than the only other 21k I've done this season (102:26.7 back on June 21).

Next time I try a half marathon I guess I'll have something to eat first. =)

Carla brought up the point a while ago (and I apologise now for not taking the baton!) that the team feeling seems to have been diluted over the months. There was a time (certainly late last year) during which there were mini battles going on among team members, lots of metres being rowed, and a strong competitive team spirit.

I was talking to Lynsey about this on Sunday. To my mind there's two main aspects to the Taff Attack Team:

1) Forum Communications
This is where we look for support, motivation and fun from others and where we can show off about our achievements.

2) Indoor Rowing Competitions
This is where we promote our team in public and have our own little battles with our PBs or SBs.

I think, unfortunately, we rely on a small number of people to keep these aspects going.

Through last year's experiences, I would say the Forum was vibrant and fun because of the battles between Martin (AussieTaff) and Carla (seat5), and myself and Bernard (Prufrock), the banter from Chris (Bore Da) and Chippy, the quips and sub-7:00 mission of Daren's, and of course Speedy's awesome achievements.

All this seems to have died down. I'm as much to blame (and I'm not looking to blame anyone, I just want highlight what a lot of us already know so we can rejuvenate our team). I've been spending more time on the UK Forum than I did last year . I'm going to make sure I contribute more on our Forum thread and give feedback/motivation/support whenever it's appropriate. I think I could also do with posting what I've done aswell like others do.

I must say Chippy, Chris and crew have done a great job in promoting the team through the competitions (and kit!) and Taff Attack is well known in the British Regional Indoor Rowing scene (couldn't possibly ignore us with the kit we've got!).

I'd appreciate any views or opinions others may have on this subject especially if it's to disagree with me.

Finally, I'd like ideas for the website. Again, I haven't made much progress with it so would like to know what you want in it (it's not my site, it's the teams). I think the website could be a good vehicle to making us a tighter team and will help us promote the team in getting new members.

For those who have mislaid the address of the (work in progress) website, it's at the link below:

Taff Attack IRC Website

Thanks for your time guys.
I don't post much simply because I prefer the UK site. It's smaller, and I know more of the locals. This site is larger and too divided up (women's forum, dutch forum, for example) so the community feeling isn't as strong and some of the people here just do my head in (no names, no pack drill, but I'm sure most can guess the worst culprit). So I'm more likely to read/post on the UK site, which in turn means I have specifically remember to come here to read this one.

I also really hate the way that IPB shows everyone who's reading what. =)
