I suspect you could pull a 1:35, possibly even faster. Your current PBs are remarkably similar to my own when I rowed at uni* (7:12 2k and 19:29 5k) as is your height and weight (I was 6'5" back then and around 75kg), and back then I pulled a 1:32 500m in a race so I imagine you could do similar.

That said, I wouldn't put too much effort into it as a distance. The important distances for the sport of rowing at 2k and up.

*Don't imagine an american collegiate rower: I was rowing at a much lower level than that.
No I kind of just wanted to get this distance done and dusted. I am not a big fan of 500/1000 pieces so I doubt I'll spend longer than I have to! Thanks for the enthusiasm Tom!

Thanks Anth. It wasn't easy at all but it felt easier than it has before and I think i could have done another 5km but I bottled it. Next weekend will hopefully be a 65km, at a slower pace.

@ Scott, you keep on regularly beating PBs so matter what distance you're doing you're clearly improving really quickly. I guess that improvement will slow down soon as you get closer to your potential but you might have a long way to go yet.

Haha hope so! This wasn't that hard to beat as I had never done one before! Kind of cheating...

Hello,
Most of the PB's on here are based on speed, and that is awesome. I am a few months out from a brag on speed (which I will absolutely do), but today was a PB for my longest row.

It took 2 1/2 hours at a rate of 2:16.7 with spm restricted <25, but I was able to complete 32,015 meters.

I'll take it. Following the Pete Plan, this was cycle 1/ Week 3/ Day 6 steady state.

Have an awesome Sunday.

New 500m PB:

1:39.5

Not quite where I want it but getting there! 1.2s PB so not that bad. Another 1.2s off and I'm happy! I'll try again tomorrow...

Might want to consider dialing the steady day volume back to the plan-specified (8~15k). The 32k continuous distance PB is impressive on its own merit but in the 2k prep context a bit like cutting down a forest of cedars when you should be sharpening a pencil. Feller could get a mite tuckered out and that's not where you want to be when that 2k test or race date arrives. Maybe Marston would have added additional volume if not limited by his "lunch hour" training window, who knows? One excursion at distance probably won't kill the mule but a few more will place serious pressure on muscle fiber repair and energy repletion. Doing the long range PB on day 6 was a worthwhile precaution against getting caught out on recovery time.

Well done Scott and David.

@ David, I love the long steady rowing sessions and 32km so early on in your rowing life is impressive. I can't comment on how it effects Pete Plan as I personally never follow any set plans.

Just beware that when you get over circa 35km it starts to get noticeably harder and you'll need to make sure you have planned your nutrition / hydration properly

Oh I realise that in the grand scheme of things in still young, but it must be nice being Scott's age (at least from a sports perspective, there's plenty I don't miss about being fourteen).

@jackrabbit
@danger

Thanks for the words of caution, honestly I need that every now and then. Although I am new to this program, I have rowed on and off for about 5 years. Stress here on the OFF.

I read the Pete Plan steady state differently as the 8 to 15 was a guideline with a statement of some will do more and some will do less based on time and desire. Although I do want my 2k time to go down, I am enthralled by the long distance ideas of testing the body. Specifically, I would like to obtain the FM, 50k and 100k rows at some point before my 40th birthday in a bout two years.

But, most likely, as is my MO, I have added too much distance way to early.

Thanks again

Nah I don't think so David. I've rowed for about 17 years, and injured my back last October so I didn't do much rowing until Jan/Feb and then I used the skierg for a couple of months, properly getting back on the rower in April and even then i was going through the motions I.e stopping at 25 mins or 8k; I used to always do a minimum of 10k.

Then in June I decided to complete a 12 hour charity session so I needed to quickly ramp up the distances. This is just me doing it so I've got no one to help with camaraderie and motivation other than myself.

Previously the furthest I had done was a 26km session about five years and maybe 6 or 7 HMs. Since June I've now done eight sessions over FM distance, 60km being the longest so far, so I don't think you have done anything wrong. If I can do distances like I have, most rowers can do the same if they focus, desire, a decent base level fitness and have the time to spare.

Potentially what you have done isn't helpful for 2km pace but it's all good for your training for 50km and 100km.

Let me know if you need any advice for the longer distances as I have found out the painful way what doesn't and does work for me.

Joe80 is also worth a private message if you need advice; that man is the undisputed king of long distance sessions (24hr event completes as an example)

David, you could also contact member <Bisqeet> regarding his exploration of marathon training last year. Recall he used the Indoor Sports Services marathon training plans and, if memory serves, an Eddy Fletcher custom program. Think he did 100+ half marathons last season.

Scouse doesn't think you need pulling back from the edge of burnout. I defer to his judgment (and yours) about ends and means. I did one half marathon in combination with PP2k two yrs back and stayed on track for several weeks after. Over-pacing the steadies is probably more detrimental to HIT interval performance than is extending their duration.
