Hey everyone, sorry I've been AWOL. My computer has had it's head up its behind for about 2 weeks now, so I am using my husband's. You guys have been really cooking along! Great go at Evesham, I wish I could have been there to holler for you all. I can't see any of the pictures, all the links just say "user posted image" and they won't do anything. I want to see'um! Anyone have any idea why I can't open them?

I have been biking a lot to get ready for my first century ride 7/24, and not rowing at all as my back is feeling on the verge of disaster. I've just got to hold together till the century is past. Saturday I did 3 x 25 miles at exactly 15.6 for each go, 5 minutes rest between to refill water bottles. The last one felt like 10 mph because my legs were so dead, but when I got home it was still pegged at 15.6. I should have eaten; I went right after breakfast (toast) and had a blueberry muffin after 50 miles. Next go around I will eat more and see if I can stretch the distance a bit because after 75 I didn't think there was anything left in the tank at all.

People I meet at group bike rides are always amazed at my hill climbing ability but when I tell them to try indoor rowing, because that's how I got this way, they don't want to work so hard. They don't think it would be fun. Though some may be converted if we keep riding together.

Happy Birthday Godfried, welcome new members, hope everyone is well--I still need to go back a few pages and see what else I've missed!

Carla

I have to go look and see if we are still there. Wish my bike miles could be converted to rowing meters...

Carla

All we need to do now is flatten a few bellies before the next event

All at Evesham - Great day, plenty of blood sweat and beers. Well done Tracey and Sue, you did the team proud. Last time I saw Tracey gasping like that was when she gave birth. Top effort !!!

Dykie

Try viewing the page again and the images might appear this time. If they don't, right click and view the image's Properties. Copy & Paste the address/URL into a new browser window, and you might be able to view the image that way, or at least get a more meaningful error message.

Hey Carla! Welcome back! I was wondering where you've been. It sounds like you have been doing a lot of bike riding! That's awesome! I'm sure you will do great on the century race - especially if this heat lets up by then! I can't imagine doing that much riding in this disgusting heat. How do you get enough water?

I'm sorry to hear your back is giving you some trouble. When you do get back on the machine again PLEASE take it easy!! (and I'm not just saying that so I can catch up with you! ha, ha!!) Xeno's been posting some great info about form and making sure you drive from rotating the hips. Another way to put this that one of my coaches so eloquently put was 'imagine squeezing a dime between your buttocks during the drive.' I know that sounds strange but it really makes you use the right muscles rather than putting the strain on the lower back. It's worked for me all these years. I've had intercostle tears, popped ribs, torn stomach muscles, pulled glute muscles, carpel tunnel, pulled achillies...but never a lower back problem.
Anyway, welcome back and good luck with the bike race!! You'll be great!

DB

Congratulations Debra on breaking through the 600,000m mark . Great stuff!

Good to see Blod (Sue) piling on the metres too, keep it up girl!

Mick Halligan's broken his first 100,000m too so great focus there Mick!

Just 22K to go for Daren to break the 500,000m mark - this week Daren?

Keep up the great work Taffs, Team Oarsome are getting uncomfortably close so we need to put more distance between them and us!

The garage conversion is now complete (bar floor laying/carpeting and painting), and I've already moved my erg in there. I will probably get another 7k done at lunctime and go through 500k tomorrow.

I would have gone for it tonight, but I'll be at Anfield watching the European Champions start the defence of their Champions League title against Total Network Solutions, the Welsh champions. I'm taking my 10-year-old nephew to his first match, so he's really excited.

My only hope is that your new garage wont be too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter! Has it got temperature control as now you're back rowing, we want to see it continue hroighout the year (winter too!). Good luck with the 500K mark.
