Error message: the sensor wire is damaged

I also got this error after upgrading my PM5 to version 24, but only once. During the workouts, I several times get an error code 22291-37.

Me too I do have time to time the 22291-37, what does it mean ?

How old is your rower? How often do you break the frame in two? How often do you fold the monitor arm?...

Sensor wires can fail, but the usual cause is going to be something chewing through the wire or some trauma when the machine is broken in two and the monitor arm is folded...

My erg is only a couple years old and approaching 4 million meters. At each use I "break the frame in two" for storage. I've also developed the habit, in the last few months, of folding the monitor at each use, to prevent monitor damage caused by a small, inquisitive / active child in the house (who might like to "slam" the arm down, monitor and all). Is repeated arm folding not recommended? Why the question regarding how often the machine is "broken in two" ? No electrical connection through that mechanical joint...

Steve, trace the path of the sensor cable from the tach housing down the chain housing beam, into a slot on the inbd steel upright of the chain gate and inside the pivoting knuckle of the monitor arm hinge and ask yourself if there's a potential pinch point. Rerouted mine in wire loom (red in pic) to bypass the monitor arm hinge. Folding back the monitor arm is the relevant bit whether or not occasionned by breaking down the machine to two manageable sections.

The upgrade to v25 sorted out all errors, or at least all *known* errors. It was a firmware bug, eventually ...

Thanks for taking the time to help, Jack, and especially for the photo. Makes what you've done very clear. I might do that, depending on any answer(s) I get to my question below:

Earlier in this thread I saw where someone was doing soldering. Is this required to replace the cable on a newer PM5 erg? The monitor end of the cable appears to be a simple plug but the end at the (tach?) is hidden. Seems by now there would be plugs at both ends. Maybe a short "pigtail" coming out of the monitor, with a plug there and one at the PM5.

Upgrade your PM5 firmware to V25 and the bug that falsely reports a sensor wire failure will be resolved.
