Got Thing 1 and Thing 2 inside just before the wild turkeys (and I'm not talking about the kind that comes in a bottle) entered the yard. A hen with a bunch of half grown chicks appeared among the branches zapped by a lightning strike a couple of days ago. A few of us are gathering here along the path of totality for eclipse viewing anyway, but now we have some yard work we can help with as a thank you. Lightning works in mysterious ways...sort of like syzygy.

Recieved my bike erg yesterday. Put 30k on it. But it won't show up on stats Or for dog days of Summer But if I was to take my Canoe down the river down stream that would count. Doesn't make sense So this winter I will Log down hill sking meters. How do you verify water meters and snow meters you don't

Bike ergs give an excellent aerobic workout and are good preparation for actual biking, but Concept2 sells only rowers and skiers to my knowledge and it makes business sense they would only count meters related to their business. On water and snow meters are not literally what they are selling but are activities for which their machines are widely recognized as good training devices--especially the rowers-so it is not surprising for them to give credit for these non-device workouts. Measuring these meters is a separate issue. This system runs on the honor system and assumes the integrity of the participants, which is the only way it can work. Besides, while it can be fun to look at all these numbers, it can also become obsessive. What is important is an individual's health, endurance and energy and that happens whether or not some impressive number of meters is on public display. All this said, it would be helpful to have additional meters to add to the collective effort to get to the moon again! HA!

Congratulations on 50 MM, Richard !!!
And you know what, forget the bike erg. I think what you need is the Iditarerg - bet you don't have one of those yet.

It's your team's big day today. Hope everyone has clear skies for the Great American Eclipse which starts at Newport, OR in four hours.
I'm in Crossville, TN right now waiting for the lunchtime excitement.

And so E-day has finally arrived....right on schedule! Keep an eye to the sky (with your eclipse shades) and see the wonderment!
Thanks to danwho for the eclipse image!
MILESTONES...Bragging Rights..Celebrations:

900 K Norma
850 K Louis
800 K Tombeur
Thanks, everyone, for rowing, ski-erging and bike-erging with us! And remember - it's your active minutes that count most (but we will work on getting meter credits).

Let's hope that the eclipse event stirs the imaginations and career aspirations for more kids to delve into things like astrophysics, astronomy, and all the cool things that make our galaxy. Science and math and engineering ...all those STEM things...aren't always the best paid careers and they require a lot of what we would call time in grade to get to the upper eschelons. We need people who can explain our world - and make it work for us! Just my fervent hopes here. Go geeks!
