LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hi Team,
Took me longer than I thought after 3 weeks no rowing to get back into it... the temps are in the high 40's now 115-120 not fun! Today I passed 42 million lifetime meters. Always fun to see the number change.
Be glad when all the BS with all the other countries stops... nobody is sure when that will happen. Still safe over here.
Take care happy Rowing,
Ed

Happy BD and A day! Lot going on today. Also my sis-in-law's BD. I'm going to yet another BDay surprise party party for an old friend today. Wow!
Ed Amazing temps there. I thought it was kind of hot here at around 30C. Then yesterday I was nearly chilly in Jeans and a T-shirt. It was not 20C. Be safe my friend.
Take care everyone and ...
Keep on Rock'n.
All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 8.5.17

A hat trick indeed! Happy Anniversary to Norma (who must have gotten married during school days!), and Happy Birthdays to our virtual "twins" bg and Minnie. Celebrate big!
Naturally I started thinking about hat tricks and why three goals by a player would be called a hat trick...naturally. A quick perusal of Wiki suggests that hat trick was first used by for a cricket player who scored 3 consecutive goals in the 1800s. A local haberdasher (there's an older word) decided to reward the player with a fine new hat. Later, in another city, another haberdasher rewarded a hockey player....and now....soccer players are getting some air time, too. And what happens to the hats thrown on the ice or field? Some players sift through them and pick out a couple, sometimes the team keeps a giant transparent Hat Trick tub on display, some end up as donations if they are newish looking....and some end up in the trash! Today's players want more compensation for product line advertisement than just free products, though!
Before the hat trick, there was a bunny trail (sort of) that started yesterday when I drove over Berthoud Pass to spend some time at a more remote mountain location. It should be noted that high altitude has its share of packaging issues - as a disclaimer. At about 10,000 ft, a bag of chips (they were healthy ones!) went off with a bang - it never fails to startle me because it's as loud as a gunshot. No chips became airborne (pups would have loved that!), but the seam blew mightily (which is what could happen if too many are consumed, too). Yogurt containers can be a challenge to open as well...or can be self-opening as described for the chips. In reading up on this phenomenon, I cracked up when one writer said that it's not just the packaging that is affected by high altitude...people are, too...confusion can happen at 10,000 ft. Confusion can happen at sea level in my experience. Snort. But. High altitude does cause issues for some of my friends who visit from the flatter lands. One friend was absolutely goofy going over Trail Ridge - and it was kind of scary. Others just get headaches.
