Good point, Rohan. Hold on 2:00/500m while counting strokes per 30". You of all people should not worry about the challenge to your counting system. The guys on the "Competition" thread are worried that the rests are inadequate for the task! You can't game a three-legged sack race until you realize that it is a three-legged sack race. ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: Forum Flyers
Managed a couple of goals over the past 2 weeks. 5k - 18m28(1.50.8) and 10k -37m57(1.53.8). Extended the 1min to 353m(1.24.5). Been a bit busy and odd hours so any challenge attempt will be on days off.

Re: Forum Flyers
Ctc this month.
Back was not behaving great this month, not rowed much, ditto for weights.
In the did it three times, rate 20,24 and 30.
20 was 135.7
24 130.7
30 125.8
Tried the june ctc on the ski. Rating for this is very low. Got 153.2/22 149.9/26 and 146.3/30 719.4 think around 30 seconds above 2k pace.
On the rower close to 2k pace is proberly doable. If you really try![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Re: Forum Flyers
Nice one Henry. Did you lower the DF for first 500m, 22spm sounds like if the DF was too high there would be a lot of heavy going with the flywheel slowing down.
I was thinking of doing it today to kick off the month, see how we go.
Cheers

Re: Forum Flyers
Did the new challenge, the last 500 a bit ugly but got there. Missed the spm for first 500 (23) but nailed the 1000(26) and last 500(30). 1m45.3, 3m32.8 (1m46.4), 1m38.8, total time 6m57.1 plus 5sec 7m2.1. Couldn't quite get the rhythm first up.
All done with 148DF if that helps anyone else.

Its not a smooth challenge. From the off you have to hammer it, with very little rest. Nicely sub 7.
Ps three boats with a F. Its very very thin atm. We only need a result, any result to fill those boats.
Re: Forum Flyers
OK so the score was nothing special, but i went from not really wanting to do the CTC to actually enjoying it. I can't explain this as i can't see why anyone would come up with this challenge. I think it was the focus on counting the strokes.
I'll be doing this one a few times this month,

Re: Forum Flyers
Same, the stroke counting really took from thinking how much it was hurting. Managed to get the stroke rates right first time, mostly by being slightly over and trying to keep track of how many to miss at the end.meerkats wrote:but i went from not really wanting to do the CTC to actually enjoying it
Re: Forum Flyers
I may have a go at this tomorrow. Are you guys figuring out your target pace and then calculating a target number of strokes or just watching the PM and counting the number of strokes that you miss according to the monitor?
Does the PM round everything down? For example an actual 21.9 spm average (total strokes / time) is shown as 21 on the final results?

Re: Forum Flyers
You should count, use half a minute or min. And count 11,13 and 15.Slacker wrote:I may have a go at this tomorrow. Yes it rounds down, 21.9 would be a pitty, spot on but wrong. 22.9 is best

Re: Forum Flyers
Good eye, Henry! 21.9 approaches perfect execution and carries a time penalty. Rate is the multiplier so 22.9 avoids the penalty WHILE optimizing yardage. Important to be wrong in all the right ways.

Re: Forum Flyers
Yes on paper. In reality the 500 interval is so short the actual tolerance is minus 0 strokes and plus 1 stroke.
I tried counting strokes for 30 seconds. On both 500s I over corrected after the 1:30 mark. Missed 1 high and the other low. I think there was plenty more in the tank as I was too focused on counts. This one may take a few tries for me.
7:44.8 + 10s penalty.
1:58.5 r23
1:56.1 r26
1:54.1 r29

Re: Forum Flyers
I gave it another go this morning and was able to hit the stroke targets. I still feel that I'm way too focused on the stroke targets to push out my best times. Guess that's what makes this one difficult. Recorded 7:43.0 with the slight improvement coming on the last 500m.
Also trying to do my part, I convinced a female to give it a try. Not sure if she will stick with it or even try again this month, but hopefully, it helps float a boat after only floating 4 last month.

Re: Forum Flyers
Another crack at the challenge, got the pacing right but the 1k was harder mentally. Overall 6m 53.9 which was a 3 sec improvement(without the penalty). 1m44/3m32.3/1m37.6. Tried it on 172df which felt ok for 500's but not the 1k seemed to take forever. Next time will stick to lower df.
