Why join a team?
Why join a team?
Two teams now have approached me about joining them. I am slightly confused as to what teams have to offer - until now I've seen erging as a fairly solitary pursuit with my main form of contact being through the c2forum. Please share your experiences...

Re: Why join a team?
It can help, if you have teammates who stimulate you. In general I find the forum here not so much helping. There is no culture that really goes for improvement here. Its mostly newbies that come and go.Gammmmo wrote:Two teams now have approached me about joining them. A team is nice for the ctc, gives you a monthly goal, but those are very random, often don,t fit in ones scedule.
Re: Why join a team?
Yes, as I understand it teams get involved with "challenges". It all seems a bit arbitrary to me especially if, like me, you are erging really to get to a particular time-standard for a distance and hopefully do more races once competitive. I can see the benefit of a team where other people live not so far away as to allow meeting up for socials and maybe even group exercise sessions e.g. on the erg, or even runs/bike rides etc. Also, for bouncing off training ideas and online racing/training.
This forum has actually been very good for me but I think where it lacks compared with the timetriallingforum.co.uk I also frequent (albeit alot more when I was racing bikes) is that there are fewer members, and there are many, many races up and down the UK every week which are referenced in the TTforum in the way of startsheets, pre/post-race "chat", and results.

Look at the plusses and the minuses, and be clear from the start what people can expect.Gammmmo wrote:Yes, as I understand it teams get involved with "challenges". Nowadays we are so triggered in doing al sorts of short term challenges, that going for a longer term, focussed goal is difficult.
For most people doing sport is about having fun, much less about getting better. Really training for a sport is no real fun, it 90% boring basic stuff.
