Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I have a PB..... Nothing to brag about but did my first 2k test today at max effort and got 7:10.1.
Ultimate target is the old 6:59.x but quite pleased with that benchmark after one cycle of PP.
Not rowing related but also went sub 20:00 on a 5k run a few days ago - a marker on my way to a <40:00 10k.

Skierg stuff
1k 314.8. Took 8 rest and did a 60 second sprint drag 121
341m 127.9 drag 145.
Will leave the 1k for a while, the 1 min can be better ofcourse without the warm up.

Congrats! I cracked 3500/day last year, but I'm sure my pace was slower than yours -- just did the math and I think I averaged 2:18.Carl Watts wrote:Finally hit the goal of just over 7500+meters a day.

Slow compared to this crowd, but my best 2Ks were both around 7:42 -- eleven ten years ago, and a couple months ago. I just pulled a 7:31.2, and I was speeding up throughout.

Wow, Lee, impressive! I have a few years until I'm 60, but I doubt I'll be this fast when I get there.RBFC wrote:1 minute personal best of 358m, 1:23.8/500m pace. Pleased for early season, 60 yr old with one biceps.
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I've been erging since mid-2005. When I first started, I did about a 7:34 2K, but I didn't record the exact time. The best recorded time I have from back then is 7:44.0. Several times I tried to go sub-7:30, but I never came close.
I gave up rowing for some time; I've been seriously rowing again for about a year. In that time I got down to about 7:50, but stalled there. Then two things happened:
I posted a video of me rowing, and got a lot of advice on rowing form. Working on that has improved my use of my legs.
Someone on this forum was estimating 2K times based on a percentage of low pull wattage. That's when I realized that at 192cm and 80kg, strength was holding me back -- I couldn't make any more progress by pushing my 2K cardio closer to my maximum effort. So I started lifting: in general, but specifically leg press, seated row, and deadlift. There's no doubt it's working:
My 7:19 goal for the calendar year is looking promising.

First 10K of the season, don't do many of these so ranked it anyway at training pace.
10,000m 39:05.6 or 1:57.2 average pace at 18 spm HR 162 average.
Will have a serious go later in the season, should be able to do 1:55 pace at 20 spm.

Damn skippy, Carl, for a fitness rower ""retired" from competition. Very strong!
