Rowing camps for adults

No, ergs don't yet float, but some of us do, and here's where you get to discuss that other form of rowing.

Rowing camps for adults

Post by nsgymd » May 9th, 2017, 10:07 am

I have been erging for one year and have logged 1M meters. I have never been on the water. I would like to spend a week at a rowing camp learning how to scull. However, it appears that most rowing camps are focused on junior rowers.

Can you recommend a sculling camp for a novice adult?

Thanks!

I think Craftsbury in VT has a great camp for different skill levels. I'm not sure if that's within your abilities as it's usually a week-long or long weekend camp. Maybe a little closer to you would be Three Rivers in Pittsburgh. Not sure if they have a camp there but there is a learn to row program.

Calm Waters Rowing in Eastern VA takes all ages and experience or lack of. Small groups, 3 day or weeklong instruction, B&B accomodation in instructors' residence. Bit of a hike from River City, as is Craftsbury.

I went to the Florida Rowing Center, http://www.floridarowingcenter.com/, back when I was in the advanced learner stage. It was, at that time, geared towards recreational rowers trying to up their game. It really helped me and it was fun to get down in some warmer weather, too.

I second calm waters. Great instruction for any skill level, range of boats from tubs to racing shells. Also, the B&B is great and the food is incredible.
