Thanks for the congrats and well done on your 1.2MM! Going to slow down a bit next year and only go for 750k but do something other than rowing as well.

Thanks for getting the chatter going!

Thanks Steve. 750k is a good goal! It's great to have balance and do varied things.

We are into the final day of the season now, our affiliate has just passed 37.8 million meters. Great job everyone! Let's finish strong, I know I have one more good row in me. Go TimbukTOO!
Go Bobbie Z. get that goal!

Those of you who are interested, the Global Marathon Challenge kicks off the new Concept 2 rowing season. To partipate you must row either a half (21097 meters) or whole marathon (42195 meters) during the first 15 days of May.

The year is just about done. Way to row Bobbie Z.! Gritting it out right up until the last day and reaching 2MM for the season. I only had a short row in me today, but I closed my year out with my best month of rowing ever. On to the new season starting tomorrow. I am committed to sticking with TimbukToo again next year, if others are on board and I want to set my goal of rowing 1.5MM for the season. I feel like that is as aggressive as I can be while maintaining my cross training regimen that includes weightlifting, kettle bells, cycling, and rowing.

What a great rowing year! But a Happy New Year, teammates! May 1, whooo hooo. I cracked open a new (paper) log book today, to tote to the gym for the next 365 days.

Thanks Angela, and John for urging us forward. Row strong!

I have a question for the group - if you own your own erg, what do you use to oil the chain.
I have not done this in quite some time.

Thanks!

Hi Angela,

http://www.concept2.com/service/indoor- ... aintenance
Lubricate the chain with a teaspoon of purified mineral oil, 3-IN-ONE® oil, or 20W motor oil. Apply oil to a paper towel, and rub the paper towel along entire length of chain. Wipe off the excess. Repeat if needed. Do not clean the chain with any kind of cleaner or solvent, e.g. WD-40®.

Happy New Year Team! Well sort of, happy new season anyway; on to great things in 2017-2018. I took a couple days off from rowing and exercise altogether, but started to get back in gear today. Nice to see over 20 of us have already started logging some meters. Thanks for the wonderful and comprehensive end of the year update, Angela! BTW, age is just a number; it means you've survived another lap around the sun. I like calculating my age by lunar cycles or months for fun, by the monthly measure I just turned 685! :)) Is anybody considering tackling the individual Global Marathon challenge? I may take a shot at the half-marathon version, I know I can handle that without many lingering side effects, but I really don't see myself doing a 3-4 hour full marathon effort. Last season I managed to average 100k meters per month, this year I'd like to actually hit the 100k mark every month and see how that affects me and my overall performance. Happy ergging all!

I did the half marathon today, pretty wiped out, but I got a PB so I am happy. I don't know how anyone does a full marathon, 3 hours would make it so I couldn't walk when I was done.

I've never done a full marathon. I tried once and choked out around 30K. Half-marathons weren't too bad, but I find I lose interest in any indoor exercise after an hour, tops. For a while I tried watching television while rowing, to see if that might help, but I lost focus on my pace and stroke rate and the workouts were mediocre.

My rowing goals this season are lower than in previous years. I now take a few months off from rowing in the Winter to log firewood, and I've started to include other types of exercise into my regimen. For the last 5.5 years I rowed about 3MM per season rowing five days a week; if I drop it to two days a week that'll get me 1.2MM as a goal.

Hey everyone, some solid rowing, TimbukTOO is in 15th place! I'm toying with the idea of a 1/2 marathon, but we'll see. I'm trying to row every day, maybe not long slogs, but at least 5K. Jim, I see we're neck and neck again. Don't envy you the log splitting this winter!

Okay team, you are inspiring me. I will shoot for at least one half-marathon by the 15th. I know the rules about single session and exact meters. Is taking a few moments to stop stand up and stretch allowed? Last half I did I just rowed straight through and my lower back was a bit stiff after. When I did it before, I just preset the PM and the countdown actually inspired me to keep pushing, once I got it under 10k I just churned along to the finish.
