That's simply a recognition that improving VO2max involves properly hard work. Certain segments of the population are unable or unwilling to do that.
 certain....

Its bizar how lazy people are. Over here, holland, we bike a lot, but the recent trend (5 years) is using bikes with an electric motor....... And no just elderly, but young people also.

For transportation purposes electric bikes can be useful. Not everyone can shower at work :)
If you cycle long distances. Everything below 10k no. I have cycled all my life, the idea of needing to shower did not excist.

But this is beside the point, more and more scooters and thise fake "bikes". There are also those racetypes, those go extra fast, easily above 40k an hour, thats simply very dangerous. From our house I have to cross or get on a cycling pad. Have to be really carefull. If I get hit by such a racemonster I am ready to kill someone. . I really is getting a problem, and the police do very little about it, understaffed.

also, distances involved sometimes put people off. they want the convenience and lower running costs of cycling but an unpowered bike is sometimes just not quite enough. I can attest to how much they help uphill though as a previous partner had one. :)
