Yahoo!! Go Lunies!!

Post by Kona2 » April 28th, 2017, 6:33 pm

Like I said earlier today, never underestimate the power of the positrons this team is generating in support of fellow teammates! Just checked the meter piggy bank levels, and bg has pulled within 12,000 m of 2 MM. With two days still left on the clock. Meanwhile, in another part of the Lunaverse, Cheryl is within TEN THOUSAND of her millionaire status. This is the c'mon, you CAN DO IT stage!

Tandem Dans indeed have crossed the 2 MM milestone within hours of each other. Good stuff.

Gaze happily at your meter totals over the next couple of days. RIght now you are like Smaug, the dragon in The Hobbit series, with all your meters surrounding you like gold coins. But these will disappear (cries of anguish notwithstanding)....and you will start rebuilding your meter piggy bank on May 1st.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.28.17

Post by Kona2 » April 29th, 2017, 10:14 am

The penultimate day ! Our contestants are striving mightily to grasp the brass ring of the Concept2 erg wheel carousel...and they ARE going to make it! Thor has returned from Asgard to throw down the hammer. Will it be a dramatic finish ? Time will tell, Lunies! Time will tell. But use your time wisely. Resist the impulse to fritter this last 36 hrs away.

Outward Bound is an organization (worldwide I think) that offers life-changing experiential learning (translation - OMG, what did I sign up for!?!). The experiential learning almost always involves putting yourself and others out in the wilderness somewhere to build skills in navigation, solve seemingly insurmountable problems with your team, ride out the rapids, rapel down cliffs. You get the picture(s). Stay with me here. Somewhere in between taking the GMAT exam and submitting admissions paperwork for a graduate program at the University of Denver, I discovered that there was an orientation weekend. In Leadville, CO at an elevation of 10,000 ft. These experiences stay with you for life. One of these experiences was a timed event in which you were taught basic skills in orienteering, given your map, and told that you had to navigate your way to the end point within the time limit specified to earn points for your team. There is nothing quite like wandering in the wilderness with the thought occurring "forget the time line, I could be lost out here." I emerged from the forest with less than two minutes to get to the awaiting finish line. I could see my teammates jumping up and down exhorting me to run faster, because yes...I had to run to make that finish line. And just when you think there is NO WAY you can run faster, you do...because you're teammates are shouting encouragement. And so it is with our milestone finish lines. The louder we shout, the greater the chances that our teammates will finish - no matter how deep in the woods they have been during their journey. GO LUNIES !!

MILESTONES IN WAITING: There will be shouts and a deep sense of quiet satisfaction....promise.

3 MM:
Thor with (18,255 m) to go!

bg with (11,650 m) to go!

1 MM:

Mark with (49,581 m) to go!

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

300 K Tim

Thanks, everyone, for rowing and ski-erging with us!

David T 5,500 m
Kevin 6,396 m
Rick 6,477 m
Will S 6,538 m

David A 11,282 m
Ron 12,021 m ...a palindrome!
Jeff G 14,014 m ...a double aught double!
Stuart 16,161 m ..a palindrome!
Larry 17,564 m
Collin 20,000 m
Image bg 23,184 m ...and she moons us!

At the end of the Outward Bound weekend program, participants are given a pin (it goes in the drawer with the Concept2 awards) that shows the Outward Bound compass encircled with their motto: To serve, to strive and not to yield. This is adapted from the last line from the poem Ulysses by Tennyson..."to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield." I'm not going to go "all poetry" on you, but it's one that seems particularly meaningful to me. My mom, to keep her mind in good stead, has a few she memorized...and I do believe this is one of them.

Hi Team,

Always great to see everyone pushing to the end! My goal at the begging of this season was to make 40 million lifetime meters. There were times I would push myself and other times say it is okay if you don't... I gave up a few tee times this month to achieve the goal. Also the 114 degrees helps me stay inside. Ha ha

Today I achieved what I started - 40 million lifetime meters. It always feels good to be on a great team that keeps us all motivated! Could not do it on my own - always take the motivation to heart and believe in ourselves.

So a shoutout to my teammates for being here throughout the season. Very much appreciated!

Ok it also helps when you live in a country with not much to do... but you still have to put you butt in the seat.

Congratulations to all!

Happy Rowing,

Ed

Whoop, whoop and way to get it done! Congratulations, Ed, on achieving a truly monumental goal! Depending upon which set of numbers you look at, you will have circled the earth at either 40,075,000 m or 40,080,000 m . We look forward to celebrating that one soon! We wish you many, MANY more celebrations! Now go get that tee time...I think you've earned a few!

Congratulations to all Loonies who achieved their goals this year!

And to those who did not quite make it...
Congratulations on setting yourself a tough challenge!
Go for it again next year!

Thank you to everyone for inspiring me to do a lot more than I had intended this season. I've tailed off a bit for a variety of reasons, some really positive excuses, but a certain amount of slackness too due to the lack of a specific goal has set in. Time for a new season, and fresh challenges!

PS: Ed, I admire the way you have so carefully positioned yourself to be able to hit the 50 million lifetime metres with a 10 million season ;-)
