OK! Here's an idea:

There could be 3 prizes, one for meters rowed during the Holiday Challenge time (this would mean that just because someone has rowed 8 million meters this season, they don't have an advantage, really, since we all start at 0 meters on 11/25--well, except the incredible fitness advantage and we won't think about that right now) another for the person who increased their daily average meters the most, and another for the person who improved their power per stroke--maybe the 4 min test.

What would we use for a baseline for the most improved daily meters--I don't think we should use the average per season, because that would give a decided advantage to people who didn't start rowing regularly at the beginning of the season (like me). It should maybe be the average of the month of October or Nov 1--25? Baseline for the power test would be doing a 4 min piece, starting of course with a stopped flywheel, at the beginning of the month. The total meters would just be total meters, of course.

The prize could be being allowed to use a special Taff attack avatar that has the dragon wearing a shirt saying which category was won, I don't know, say, "High Meters Taff", "Improved Power Taff" and "Improved Distance Taff"
No, those aren't cool enough, someone else will think of what to put on the shirts. Or below the dragon's erg.... The avatar should have a fancy frame around it that makes it stand out as an award thing and maybe have a blue ribbon on the corner.

You could use that avatar until the next time we do a team challenge. It would be really fun, I think, to try to earn them. I'm sure we'd come up with other ones to earn as the year went on.

Then if someone felt like it they could challenge the current holder on a personal basis, and if the challenge was accepted, we could be cheering our teammates on and see who prevailed.

What do you think?

Carla

I can go with what Carla said. But as I said yesterday, I'm open to anything. So count my vote for anything.

Speedy

Great ideas Carla. I loved the idea of a special avatar, it's like an online merit badge scheme. I agree that the avatar should have a fancy border (gold?) and the achievement should be clearly stated.

Is it worth considering using the Nonathlon points system to determine improvements/ability as this system is a great equaliser. In terms of awards names how about:

PB Smasher - for most improved PB time (as a percentage of old time)
SB Smasher - for most improved Season's Best time (as a percentage of old time)
Erg Monkey - for largest increase in baseline weekly total

Can't think of any other award names right now so I'll do a 10K row this afternoon and see what I come up with.

#### - ####
No erging for a little over 250 hours. It looks like I needed to do something other than rowing to fill that time. Guess what. So I gained 3 kg ( 7 lbs ).
####
And today's 7k ( 6 times 5 mins ) felt like the 42k last month.
####
So I know I am really not ready for EIRC. Will try to be good the next weeks , see what I can do to get back in shape.

I can't ever remember this thread ever being listed anywhere other than the top three subjects in the General forum. I hope the lack of contributions are because we're all rowing .

Now that BIRC is a thing of the past I'm steadily getting back into longer distance sessions. I've done 64,000m this week so far and that should be over 80K by the end of tomorrow and over 100K by next the end of the weekend (which is good for me ).
