bg and performance monitor time outs
bg - reading through the manuals for the PM3/4 - the time out when you are in rowing mode is FOUR minutes. The time out from main menu is ONE minute. So, you'll have to practice the race to the restroom and get there and back in under four minutes in order to have a verified total. Get your stopwatch out! It could be a new kind of personal best...just having some fun with the thoughts, not giving you a hard time!
He's A Meter Millionaire!
Whoop, whoop and I didn't see this happening a month ago....! Way to pull the erg chain and get your ONE million meter season into the meter banks! Congratulations, Gerald, on achieving a million meter season! We wish you many, MANY more!! We hope you're having fun!

Another episode...bunny trails of the mind...
Communication is such a fragile thing for all its power potential. Drivetofast tested PM monitors and how fast they time out by inputting a number, giving the chain a pull or few, and getting the stopwatch going. He says 2 minutes (not the four that the Concept2 manual states) is time out zone. He recommends using the Erg Data app and the iphone connection kit (or Android) for bg to be able to take breaks while erging half or full marathon without having the monitor time out. Using Erg Data, the monitor does NOT time out.
The iPhone connection kit is a cradle that slides over the top of the PM monitor, and grips the phone securely. You connect the port on the PM monitor to the iPhone jack (yes, the photo shows a 30 pin connector, but they have others). This would require leaving your phone connected to the monitor while you were away. If you have a PM5 monitor at the gym, then you can connect wirelessly.
Good research and idea, Richard. Even though I now use Erg Data, I hadn't thought about using it at a gym with the connection kit.
And, naturally, after thinking about connection kits, the bunny trail was in view and before I knew it...there I went.
Back in "the day", I bet most of us made a "phone" using string and two tin cans or two paper cups. While we may snort at the idea of such a thing (not sure if this would be something still tried with today's littles, but perhaps those of you with kids or grandkids 7 and under would give it a try), it really DOES work. The trick is to keep the string or wire taut between the two cans or two paper cups so that the sound waves can travel through. Some suggest that the paper cups are easier to use because the bottom of the paper cup reverberates as Kid 1 talks so that Kid 2 can listen. How far apart...100 ft is not out of reach.
Earth Day...we may have the Earth in the rear view mirror of our space-traveling ergs, yet it's still top of mind. Enjoy some outside time today! Maybe even ride your bike....

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
As I don't have an I phone (Blackberry) I am open to suggestions.
I am not troubled for the half marathon but as I could take 3.5 hours for the full bodily matters may come into play, unfortunately the facilities in the gym I frequent are two floors (four flights of stairs) below the rower.
I would like to do a full next week to score my bonus 100 points in the nonathalon before the season ends but I have been hesitating because of this issue, imagine having done 30k and the machine turning off, I would probably cry .
Apart from seeking an arrangement to persuade someone to change the display parameters whilst I pay my visit, which would be "hit and miss" any suggestions?

Tell us more about this! Is this for UK club members or ? What do participants do and how does it work?tobyj1 wrote:As I don't have an I phone (Blackberry) I am open to suggestions.

PS - I have sent an email to concept2 to see if they can offer any other suggestions on how to manipulate the PM monitor.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
The nonathalon, I think it is UK based but certainly no way is it restricted, you simply sign up at Nonathalon.com.
Quote from their site:-
"The Nonathlon lets you compete on equal terms with other Concept2 rowers of all ages. You compete against everyone, but using the previous years rankings you are only scored against the best times/distances for your own age, weight, and sex. This gives everyone a more equal chance of winning."
I like it because it is handicapped to take account of age. you have a target in each of the "recognised" C2 challenges 500m, 1k ,2k,5k, 6k, 10k, 30min, 60min, half and full marathon, it used to be 9 (I think 6k got added) which is where the name came from. You score points against a "gold standard". There is some serious maths (or math!) involved which I can't pretend to understand
If you complete all the distances you get 100 bonus points, my actual marathon score will be pitiful but those bonus points would kick me up the ratings.
Compared to the thousands that are registered on the C" site it is tiny, but it is good fun, they don't have a forum just an FAQ.
I am standing somewhere in the 120's (as tobyj1), for me it is just another motivational tool as I rarely get into the top half of the age group on C2- there are
some animals out there!!
Hope this helps.
Keith
PS thank you for contacting C2

Keith -
Maybe we are thinking about this the wrong way. Perhaps you could get the gym to support your marathon pursuit by asking if they could relocate the rowing machine for a day - to a location closer to the facilities! It would just be for a few hours after all - and it's a worthy reason...

oops, I put an extra a in the link- should be;- http://www.nonathlon.com
The easiest suggestions sometimes work sadly not in this case, the free weights room is all that is on the floor with the facilities, if I described some C2 users as animals they don't even register on the scale of the denizens of that dark and dangerous place!!!!!
