Hi Godfried,

QUOTE

your 1k is slower than your 5k, 6k, 30mins and 10k average.
Just do a 5k with 1k split - do it at 6k average - and you can put 3 more great times in it.

Part of the trouble is that I can't do a fast start from a stopped flywheel. Even after a nice slow 2K warmup (say 10--11 min), when I sit down to do my next piece it takes me about a minute or so to get the pace where it needs to be. On the shorter pieces, that really blows the total time. To get the pace down in a few strokes puts way too much pressure on my lower back. Don't know if it will ever be ok, but I'm not going to force that and end up not walking, standing, or sitting for a few months....and then dragging one leg for a few more....wondering if I should apply for a handicapped parking space sign...no thanks.... been there, done that, and it's NO FUN!

The splits for the first 1K of the 6K were 2:04.3 and 2:03.7 which would be 2 seconds faster than the official 1K time I've got down there and the 500 of course ends up slower than my official 500. A 2K would have been 2:04.3 +2:03.7 + 2:03.1 +2:03.2=8:14.3--certainly nothing to write home about with my old PB being 7:48.something.

Think I'll just leave the gap on the graph for the time being.
Carla

I read with interest recently a posting on the Training Forum on the Oarsome Foursome Training DVD. In particular, the reviewer gave a blow-by-blow account of the rowing technique demonstrated. Armed with this new found knowledge, I did my 10K session this afternoon and concentrated on keeping the chain straight (and not undulating like a force 4 swell like I normally do ).

Well, what a difference it made! New SB too which was a nice bonus, although as you'll see from the splits below, I did have a period in the middle where I felt I couldn't sustain the rate and went back to old habits. However, after the 1500m lapse, I realised a SB was on the cards and focused on maintaining this new technique and worry about the pain afterwards.

I also have to say to Carla that I'm now a big convert to the Average Pace display on the monitor. Without this display I don't think I'd have had the confidence to go for the SB after lapsing.

Anyway, time for the big red font that indicates a PB or SB (in my case a SB!). New SB for 10K is now 39:27.4. Even though a sub-39mins time would seem to be a long way off, I certainly think I have the confidence to go for it after I've got over my cold and post-BIRC.

And for those that are interested, here are the splits:

1:58.5 (29spm)
1:57.3 (29)
1:56.6 (29)
1:56.4 (28)
1:57.0 (29)
1:57.7 (28)
2:00.6 (27)
2:02.4 (27)
2:01.0 (27)
1:59.5 (28)
1:58.5 (28)
1:58.7 (28)
1:59.1 (28)
1:59.7 (28)
1:59.4 (28)
1:59.4 (28)
1:58.8 (28)
1:57.8 (28)
1:57.9 (28)
1:51.1 (30)

Anyone setting a PB deserves praise, its the way of things so well done Carla and Naill. BUT in particular reference to Martins HM PB and Speedys up and coming 2:40 (2:30??) marathon attempt I only have two words to say, and only the second one is printable, so here it is:

Hell
