I've been wanting to get into more endurance rowing, and I'm a thirsty fellah, so I was curious if anyone here uses those hydration backpacks when they row. I noticed in a search some people say just keep a bottle near the erg to take occasional sips from, but I would like to avoid stopping my rowing and dropping heart rate. If anyone wears the backpacks can ya'll recommend one? I found one on ebay for $18 shipped which seemed simple and just what the doctor ordered, but I'd prefer direct feedback from here first

Back when I rower a few marathons I had a CamelBak bladder set up next to the rower on a make-shift stand. I could grab the nozzle on the recovery, take a drink while I took a few light strokes, then spit it out. Worked fine for me, and for me wearing a backpack would have been really uncomfortable.

I have a Camelback hydration pack that I use when paddling my kayak. For LSD sessions with my erg I add a tube extender to lengthen the tube and keep the hydration pack on the floor and to the side. Mouthpiece is clipped to my shirt. Wearing the pack on the back of my PFD when I'm on the water is okay, but I don't want it on me when I'm rowing.

I have done FMs with a Camelbak, and also with water bottles.
I have not had any big issues either way.
The Camelbak can get a little hot on the back.
For the water bottle, I just row a stroke or 2 with one hand, while I quickly grab the bottle and squirt the water in my mouth.
