Even rowing from 7pm till 7:30pm creates problems sleeping. Your better off rowing in the early mornings, as long as your a "Morning Person" that is and you can get out of bed early.

For a PB about mid morning would be the best time, unfortunately this doesn't fit in the schedule if you have to work.

Of course it all depends on your intensity and distance, or essentially the time your HR is elevated. For me it takes hours to wind down if the HR is 160 average or higher.
I'm a 'morning person', but not enough that I want to wake up at 4:15, so I end up doing late, which isn't so great.

Almost always. Put the kids in bed, finish the dishes, and hit the gym. Last night was 9:30-10:00.

Only late at night (8:00-10:00), no effect on sleep.
Funnily though wightlifting wires me up so that I often cannot fall asleep.

Not done a real late one in a while tbh. Been really feeling crap on the erg lately doing noon or early afternoon rows!!!

Think my next sessions gonna be later in the evening and see how i fair! I reckon i'll be more up for it. Maybe perform better and enjoy it more.

In the spring and fall I teach a couple of nights a week, so I'm on the erg around 9:00-9:30. No problem. Feel good and crash when I hit the sack. On the occassions when I have to do an early am session, I do easy endurance work. No desire to go hard early.

i prefer Mornings. Afternoons are ok-ish, but (late) evenings I tend to avoid.
nothing after 9, definetly. and then just light stuff.
get too highly strung - cant sleep etc.
i'm a Little bipolar and that stuff later effects me greatly.
On the otherhand, I have nothing against getting up at 4 and Training ..and i'm good all day. i guess my biorhythm is more morning orientated.

I don't like to do hard workouts after 7:30pm, as I am prone to workout induced insomnia. I know this from my days running hard tempos and track workouts with a club. Those workouts were always late, after work.

The main trouble was waking up at 3:30am, hungry, even though I had eaten a big dinner after the workouts.

As my doctor friend told me, when muscles are hungry, they're hungry. So, he told me to eat, regardless of the time. It's just hard to eat when you don't want to turn all the lights on so early in the morning.

Yeah, i mean it's most definitely not something that will suit everyone. I am the opposite and find i sleep like a baby even if i do have a later evening erg session.

I know it's not recommended to eat very late at night, but i always make sure i go to bed with something in my stomach. I'll maybe have a chicken or egg sandwich and cup of coco just before heading to bed. I never wake up in the middle of the night hungry etc

I've always been a night owl, staying up to read, or work. When I had an erg in my living room (those were the days!) I'd often see my wife to bed around 10-11pm, and then go row. My first marathon started as a whim around 11:30pm -- I just figured, what the heck, I'll put in 42,195 and see how far I get. I finished about 3:13 later, still my best marathon time years later.

I never have problems getting to sleep, no matter what I've been doing, so that isn't a factor.

Tonight it's going to start snowing (New York City), and I really wanted to do a 10K every day for Mud Season, so I'm heading off to the gym shortly to get a 10K in for the 14th before all heck breaks loose. It'll be my first late-night row in some time, I'm looking forward to it.

If I don't row first thing in the morning it doesn't happen.

I think having a permanent erg setup like i do really is a help! If i had to keep splitting the rower up and putting it away in storage each time, i'm pretty sure i would not be doing half as much rowing as what i currently do. The fact it's sitting there in one of my living room areas gives extra motivation, and is just one reason it makes the erg so addictive for me. That urge to jump on it for a session any time is very relentless... i do love rowing in general though, it's a great sport, so glad i took it up.

It's actually been a mixture with the times of day i do a session lately!!!!! Some early one's, but it's mostly later afternoon stuff 4-6pm! And the occasional 7-8pm one. I enjoy the later one's more for sure, i feel much more energized for them later in the day, and the body is nice warm and supple for it later on.

Enjoy your 10k's.. no bad thing cranking them out often

When I was deciding which rower to buy (an easy decision now but wasn't at the time with me having essentially no rowing experience of any kind), the ease of splitting C2 rowers was something I didn't understand (had never done it or seen it done). Now, I split mine each morning, though I don't really put the halves in storage - just on different sides of the room to make it easier to get around in the room. Takes a minute or less, I'd guess. I certainly understand the appeal of being able to leave it set-up all the time. I could do that but it works best for my family to divide it each morning. So glad I didn't buy "Brand X" which can't be split (just one of many C2 benefits I can now see clearly). Nothing like experience...
