Re: Pete Plan 2017
All talk about pain during a 2k is all nice and well. The trouble is, if you really do your best, it will hurt and hurt a lot. If not you did not go full 100% which is very common and proberly Understandable.
Also the talk about the middle part being the thoughest, hell no, the last minute AND... the minutes right after the row hurt the most. BUT.. if you did and got a good result that will give a feeling of releave and satisfaction.
The only way you can make it hurt a bit less is being as fit as possible. If you look at some of the top guys, certainly the lightweights, they will race like mad, but still look pretty ok, right after. The less fit and the more a sprint type you are, the more it can hurt.
Plenty of people never do 2k s or any other TT, a bit like most game sports. For health and fitness its not needed to push yourself that hard.

The last bit is certainly the area for me where the wheezing starts and the legless feeling happens. The part leading up to that seems mostly a trick of the lizard brain - we don't want to feel uncomfortable so we get anxious.

Hi all
Wk 12.2 BPP Had the 4x1500 r3 yesterday and the plan did not give too much info for pacing, just to go a little faster than last time in wk 8.
I tried to go a little faster with each interval and made the last my fastest. Was I supposed to just keep one pace for all 4??
6:41 2:13/500 23 s/m
6:27 2:09/500 25 s/m
6:17 2:05/500 26

Yep, its the part where we fear the pain, its not really there yetG-dub wrote:The last bit is certainly the area for me where the wheezing starts and the legless feeling happens. Ben: It can be difficult in the BPP to determine pacing when you are making still big improvements day to day. Ideally, the first 3 would be done at the same pace and then try and increase on the final one. Just do the best you can to gauge things based on not just the same workout but more recent ones even thought they are a little different as you get the hang of things. Eventually, the paces will settle out and you will know about where you should be.
Ivo: Nice workout, looks like a solid effort. After I finish the BPP I plan to see what I can do on some of those PP workouts that we don't get to do.
BPP 22.3
30r20
6873m @2:10.9
I was a little stiff from the previous day (working outside) but after warm up and stretching I didn't seem to notice too much. Seemed to go well. Just concentrated on keeping the strokes on target (ErgData shows stroke count) and let the pace do whatever it wanted.

Nice work Ben. On "Bwolf" Ben's question, Ben (Slacker) answered it pretty well. The BPP is more vague it seems on pacing, probably for a reason. You're still newer to rowing and the amount of improvement will be vast. With the Full PP, you're not going to improve all that much. If I have a second difference, for instance, on my 500m paces, it's a LOT.
My answer to you would be that your pace variance from first to last set was quite a lot. Probably from finding what you're capable of safely, which is fine. Next time, though, you'll know what you are capable of (this time's average will tell you that). Next time, take the average of all the intervals this time as your pace goal for the 1st three. On the last one, see if you can drive that pace down some. If you can't, your pace goal was too high (but I'd suspect you'd be just fine picking this average pace as your goal pace next time for the 1st 3 intervals).

BPP Week 20 Day 1
12,000m target 11k pace (2:14)
Actual: 53:57.1 / 12000 / 2:14.8
Bit slow frankly, but the legs were heavy after all this 2k stuff last night.

Re: Pete Plan 2017
I got back on the BPP today, I had the itch and couldn't wait till next week to start again. I felt fresher after a few days of light rowing so thought I'd go for it. Pete says for this session to attempt a 10km PB, my previous PB was 39:28.1 so I was desperate to get close to 39.
BPP 23.1 10km
38:45.1 / 10,000m / 1:56.2 / 25
7:51.3 / 2,000m / 1:57.8 / 25
7:48.9 / 4,000m / 1:57.2 / 24
7:45.7 / 6,000m / 1:56.4 / 25
7:43.6 / 8,000m / 1:55.9 / 25
7:35.7 / 10,000m / 1:53.9 / 26
Absolutely made up with that! I was going fine up until about 7km then it hit me and the last 3km felt like it was going on forever. My poor dog didn't appreciate my slow jelly legged walk with him afterwards either.

Hello all! Just started the Pete Plane "Lite" in wintery Regina, SK.
Did my first 5k tonight - 18:34.6 at an average s/r of 22. Really concentrated on pushing hard with the legs and recovering on the way back.
Great thread btw...love reading how others are doing!

Thanks Mike (and all the others in the group). Who knows, maybe one day I'll be experienced enough to give back here. For now, just very much taking it all in, following the advice and reading what you're all doing.mdpfirrman wrote:@ Ivo - Part of the reason I started the thread this year (for 2017) is it's a great place to start and get ramped up. The "What training have you done today" thread has (not that it's bad) has become, for lack of better phrases, a lot of "willy wagging". There are many strong, strong rowers on there (many world class) posting times. I've learned to get over my intimidation with that thread and meet people on it, but when I was new -- no way was I going to put my very pedestrian / average paces on that thread. When I started, I saw a Pete Plan thread that Glenn started. I asked to join in. They were kind enough to let me join (and everyone else too). It hooked me as it gave me structure and guidance. Also, Glenn, Jack, Henry, Dean, Chris (and many others) helped me as I was new to rowing. That's what this thread is to me - trying to "give back" some of what others were kind enough to help me with. As a newer indoor rower, there's a ton of questions you have. For a silly machine, there's a ton to learn.

Haha, I should do, although the walk was a nice cool down afterwards.paul45 wrote:Could you not get your dog a treadmill and while you row he/she can walk
Nicely done, guess you need to go hard to keep warm up there!cflrules wrote:

Gordon: Solid 12k. They do make the 10ks feel a little better.
Andy: Smoking 10k. Nicely done with negative splits the whole way.
cflrules: Welcome to the thread. Keep up the good work.
Ivo: Good luck on the 5k attempt!
Paul: Nice 30 min row. Steady improvement.
BPP 22.4
3x 10min /r2:00
@2:07.5 r 24
Keep the first 2 around 2:08. For the last one I did the first half the same and then speed up a bit for the last 5 min and ended with a 2:06.8.
Everyone enjoy the weekend. 10k attempt on Monday for me.

Re: Pete Plan 2017
Evening all.
Greetings cflrules ... welcome aboard as a "beginner", although you're already doing 5K at a pace I'd quite like to hold for 2K
BPP week 4, session 3 - 6500m steady, as per the usual (2:15 in my case):
2:14.9 at 19 spm, hr inside UT2 band for most of it but crept a little into UT1 towards the end, was a bit higher than session 1 but still fine. Felt good, loosened up the legs nicely after yesterday's session at the running track. Consistent splits apart from the first two where I caught the RowPro paceboat and then eased off to pace. Focused on technique and spm, and with a favourite playlist on the boombox the 6500 metres flew by.
