Good not great Henry - got to 351 to just lead the IRL for the moment but did 354 last May and PB is 362. I am hoping that the 2km focus means that the power is there somewhere and I just need to spend some time on 500m specific training which is the next project after boston. Richard Steventon did 356 and normally I can stay ahead of him on the sprints. Training is indeed focussed! I leave tomorrow to start the adventure! 8 days in SFran to taper the training and get my head together then 5 in Boston. I have packed my warmest clothes.

BTW - just posted
Empty the Tanks February Cross Team Challenge is:
10 x 90 seconds with 30 seconds rest.
Standing start with rolling starts thereafter.
Record total distance of 15 minutes rowing.
No rate restrictions
We used to really do well on these ones so a least a chance and maybe even Shawn will come out to play!

Well, I finally managed to get my girlfriend to float the 5th boat for the the flyers today, and she actually managed to make it into the same boat I'm in :D
Here's hoping I wont be bumped down a boat, I really don't care for a hard row tomorrow.

Now we're only one lady short of floating a 6th boat.. That would make an impressive fleet.

And by the way, Dragana Samardzija is one seriously badass name. I LIKE it!

I just updated my 4x4 ctc score...an improvement over my first effort, I am glad to say! Having a virtual team is a great training incentive for me. Thanks Flyers!

Would it be appropriate for us to have an event in memory of Bob? I was saddened to see an obituary for him linked to in the CTC thread http://www.sierrawave.net/robert-spenger-1924-2017/

Whilst I never had any direct contact with him it was obvious he was held in very high regard on the board, though if for any reason it would not be appropriate for us to have an event in his memory please accept my apologies.

A couple of ideas I had were either something to recognise his slew of world records (looks like 38 matches for his name on the Concept2 website) - or I did notice in Dougie's post that Bob had 5,142 posts - so perhaps even a single piece of that distance in meters would be an option?

Sounds like a very good idea.
Don,t believe Bob was a team member, he was more a general rower and rower fan. Myself being a relative oldy on the board had contact with him, not in real life, but here on the forum and via personal messages.

Not seldom he very friendly pointed me on errors I made in postings so I could correct them.

we do have a habit of doing tribute CTC's.

My idea for the mix

TWIN PEAKS

500m, 1k, 1.5k, 1k, 500m, 1k, 1.5k, 1k, 500m, 1 min rests, total of 8.5k

I might try this a find out how truly aweful it is!!:)

Cracking show last month

Re: Rohan's suggestion of a CTC challenge in memory of Bob Spenger, the Joan Van Blom Memorial challenge is the proper model and precedent. I hope we don't jump to the conclusion that FF should present this as a one time team challenge and then proceed to get in the weeds over the question of team membership and do nothing.

If memory serves faithfully, there's a recent "top 100 all time" CTC list somewhere in the Cross-Team discussion thread and I think Bob is on it. I can't find it with the current search engine or by paginating and scanning topics. Can anyone find this thread and confirm? In any event, Bob may have missed out on Olympic glory but never missed a beat as a teacher, advocate, competitor, friend and fan of IR and OTW. I hope we can get this memorial row in concert with all the CTC teams and their governing voices.
