I can't get over all of the distances that are raced. It would seem that the competitors would be spread very thin with so much available.

Re: Australian Indoor Rowing 2016
This is the biggest year we have ever had - mainly due to the efforts of Urban Rowing in Brisbane (Wade Ruffin) and a guy in NSW who is a C2 trainer (Ian Gibson). Wade runs a gym just for rowers - lots of ergs and weights and 2 tanks as well.Cyclingman1 wrote:I can't get over all of the distances that are raced. Some of the events will be pretty modest of course as it is early days and there are only 24million of us in a land mass the size of north America. Typically people do more that one event though - I (and some of the others too) normally do then all for example rather than just set for one (except in the distance ones of course). It changes your perspective a little and you may not go flat chat in them all but you can do more than one hard erg in a day (I PB'd both the 1km and 2km in Queensland last year for example). It also depends what order the races are organised.
The biggest of the races will attract >100 people though - the Queensland event in May, the AIRC in June and the Masters games in November. Because numbers are not huge and the distances to get there are huge a one race event would be over in a couple of hours and you get more people when there are a few shorter options as well.
The Masters Games is a multi sport event (50 sports) so you get people just picking it up as a second interest and the shorter events attract them more too.
Sydney to Brisbane is 1000km and Sydney to Melbourne is 800k so you need to get some bang for your buck!

Wow, that's a lot of racing!
Would love For C2 to offer a World distance day, say choose from 5000, 30:00, 60:00.

Guys Australia is a continent , If we make a list of all the races in Europa you might be very very surpiced.
Looking from my point of view, draw a 1000 km circle and I find dozens of races. Uk, france, germany, south scandinavia, low countries. Its always traveling.

Hi Jade this is the look at the momentJadeMerrett wrote:Hi Lindsay,

There is also likely to be a multi venue AIRC in November organised by Rowing Australia - they did quite well in 2016
There will also be a race day in Sydney in September I am sure which is pretty good.
Unfortunately Wade in Brisbane has sold his Urban Rowing gym so not as much happening.
The queensland weekend of racing in june is always pretty good and the Tasmanian venue for the Masters AMG will be nice though not clear how many will race. The distances in Oz are all a deterrent as well so some events are modest.
if you are in Melbourne the Ergfit gym is good - owned by a really nice couple who are big OTW

Re: Australian Indoor Rowing 2016
Hi Lindsay,
I'm in Vic "Horsham" pretty much a long way from anywhere but within a reasonable distance to attend a couple of ERGFit comps just for interest sake and to maintain enthusiasm for training.
I'm pretty much a new comer to the sport so just easing into things ATM, training has been fairly random and sporadic so starting Monday I'm planning to commence the Pete Plan, record my data and track progress. I will aim to attend ERGFit 10K, half and full marathons and hopefully be in a reasonable shape come November for AIRC.
Hopefully I'm on the right track for starting out with the PP?
Regards and Thanks in advance!!
