Congrats, nice work.

Thanks for congrats.
I feel better with a "lower" rate.lindsayh wrote:Nice one Nico esp at 34 s/r - strong splits without fading.
Once you can learn to rate up at 40 you will be much faster I suspect.
Close to my max (203)GJS wrote:Lovely stuff, Nico.
196 bpm - Is that nearing your max?

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks, guys! And congrats for my part to all PBers!
Gary, I don't have any "very near future" plans for the 2k. Next attempt to break PB will probably be 30' where I'm hoping to break 8000. I'm not there yet (probably somewhere b/w 7950-7999 atm). But I guess i have to give a try for the 2k also before this erg season is over.GJS wrote:Marvellous effort, Harry.
Are you interested in going for pbs at shorter distances in the coming months? That 2k PB is beginning to look even older than its 15yrs. You would surely crush it.

New world record for M 65-69 Hwt
Today's race in Redwood City, California = 6:39.5.
That's a new world record for Men 65-69 Hwt.
I didn't know whether I would get there, but felt pretty good in the end.
One surprising thing I noticed was at the start. I'm used to pulling several seconds below my target pace just after the first few strokes. But in a race, the time starts when the screen says ROW. Depending on your reaction time, your first stroke is therefore slow. I saw an average pace over 1:42 when I would have expected to be around 1:36. It took about 750 meters of rowing at around 1:41 to get my average down to where I expected it. Next time I'll pay more attention at the start.
On to the CRASH-B's.

Re: New world record for M 65-69 Hwt
Yes Chris that is normal - ignore your average as henry says and just concentrate on the pace of each stroke - the average will take 500+ to catch up because of those first few strokes. Chasing it too hard will drain reserves early. Aim to get to half way at 3:20+ and 1500 at 5:00+ is a good planccooper wrote:One surprising thing I noticed was at the start. Re: New world record for M 65-69 Hwt
Excellent row Chris, great effort and well done on the record. I'm guessing it was your first race too if you were taken by surprise by the time delay at the start. The thing is that in a race the monitor is starting you, in a training session or a time trial you are starting the monitor so there is a difference for the time taken for you to see ''ROW'' and the start of your first stroke of about a full second....and there's nothing you can do about it. It means you have to add a second to your ''predicted'' finishing time and adjust your race plan accordingly.ccooper wrote:Today's race in Redwood City, California = 6:39.5.

Too many people try to make up that second too soon which means they start too fast and therefore finish too slow as they have used up all their energy way too soon......a bit like a 10k runner at the Olympics sprinting the first lap instead of the last one.....it would not do them any good at all!
Good luck with Boston, I hope to see you there next year when I'll be in the 60-64 Lwt category....and hoping to squeeze under 7 minutes....despite that ''extra'' second!
