Depends what you mean by blisters - I still get 'pulled skin' on the second joint of my fingers after 50k/week for around 4 years - I find that the 'grip master hand pads' that C2 sell actually work very well for that despite the ridiculous name.

Have you tried BODYGLIDE? Just a thought. I don't get blisters from erging—just calluses, which serve as a welcome reminder that I'm erging regularly.

My hands are getting raw close to blistered. I was considering hockey stick or bicycle handlebar tape. Opinions?

Hey Ducatista,

Thanks, that looks like it will work. Have'nt seen it here in South africa but will look around. It makes a lot of sense to me. Have you tried it ?

I haven't, but I work with a marathoner/triathlete who swears by it. She's convinced that the version without sunscreen works best, BTW.

I'm going to pick up a tube/stick/whatever soon, because sockless season is rapidly approaching up here. I commute on foot, and even well into the summer, when my feet should be completely battle-hardened, there are some shoes that irritate my naked toes.

1) cramer tuf skin is a spray on product that will help.

2) taping is how most athletic trainers would handle this

3) I personally wear my summer motorcycling leather gloves to prevent the calouses which the ladies abhor

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I ordered the wood handle from the Model C as I have heard people have had less problems with it. I think I will also look into the batting gloves. I tried some biking gloves but didn't like the padding so maybe the batting gloves would work.

I use bike gloves with thin padding from Nike (not GEL padding). No problem at all with blisters. B)

Try using Witch Hazel to tighten the skin on the blisters.

bike tape

Post by c2jonw » April 14th, 2006, 9:47 am

We have a number of ergs in our workout room here at C2. My favorite one for long rows has gel bicycle handlebar tape on it. I cut the stock grip material off and wrapped the tape on. It does have a couple drawbacks I can think of- it's not as durable as the stock material and it is an open cell foam, which can trap dirt and germs. The solution to both of these issues is occasional replacement of the tape.......C2JonW
