The problem is in my view not the people, we are mostly just following, its the lifestyle and food availability thats the problem. In some parts of the world we hardly do work anymore and food has gone so far away from its natural state and amounts are bizar, in such a situation lots of people can,t help themselves and just do what "everybody" does.mdpfirrman wrote:I'm not as extreme as Shawn but I disagree with JAG too. I've seen many people have weight loss success using a ketogenic diet, even drastic weight loss. I was obese four years ago and joined Loseit (like myfitnesspal). There are literally 100s of people I've seen that tried everything else and CICO (calories in, calories out) wasn't the whole picture for them. For me, for instance, fat / protein / carbs didn't matter as long as I watched calories. For my wife, though, she tracked calories for nearly a year before she dropped gluten and dairy and quickly dropped 25 lbs on the same amount of calories. Actually studies prove that if you up your percentage of fat, you burn more or change the "calories out" side of the equation. It's pretty conclusive actually.
Things you see in the us, you don,t see yet over here in Europa. Although ofcourse things are hear different to.
In my track and field days, everybody there had a sixpack, that was more or less the norm, no foodrestrictions, lots of work and you are lean.
High fat, low carb does work, but it has its limitations, I still have to come one guy who can follow longer term and doing a higher volume anaerobic training scedule. Low volume is fine, pure aerobic is doable, but not doing stuff like gamesports etc.
I myself have upped the carbs, low was not sustainable, I myself am never been very fat, on any kind of diet. On low carb I got very lean, but my hormonse started to play up. And some kind of training was so painfull. Strenghttraining was fine, even doing a single 2k was ok enough, but higher reps interval stuff was killing. You need glycogen for that.
For people not working out, or just daily life in the wests carbs are really not important, everything we do is so low intensity, its 95% plus aerobe. Can be done on fat easily.
