5k and 10k PB in same effort

Post by expat-rower » December 31st, 2016, 6:51 am

I set out to just row a 10k today. No real goal pace or time at all. Started pulling and felt pretty good. So, slowly picked it up as time went on and ripped through a huge PB for both 10k and 5k. I had no idea what I could do for a 10k but the projected finish time kept coming down and that was pretty motivating. My times were:

10k Total: 37:03 (1:51/500m)
1st 5k: 19:00, 2nd 5k: 18:03 (PB)
2k Pace Splits: 1:55.7, 1:53.2, 1:51.1, 1:49.4, 1:46.2

I think I'm slowly figuring out what I can handle on this crazy erg. Plus, I've been working a bit on technique. I feel like a solid hip pivot lowers my 500m pace by a few seconds at the same effort. Fun stuff!

Now, I gotta figure out how to pace a 10k and see what I can do. Wish I would have went a little harder at the beginning to break 37 minutes. Oh well. Next time.

Thanks for everyone's help so far.
