Greetings, One and All!

Aaaaakkkkk! How did I miss uploading any meters at all so far this season? Where has the time gone? I'm not even showing up on the team yet! All of this was discovered as I sat here eating breakfast, and getting myself mentally psyched to get started on the Holiday Challenge. I've been rowing in CrossFit, and have meters to upload from my log card. Their machines don't seem to record the correct date, so I'm not sure what that will do to my meters. Just in case it throws things off I will do the upload before beginning to row Holiday Challenge meters, and will upload meters for the challenge once I see that K2 has captured that first upload.

Missed you all, and I'm hoping to get back into the routine of a daily check in on the Team Room during this challenge.

Three Shiny New Reindeer and a fully blinged Dasher

Post by Kona2 » December 11th, 2016, 2:13 pm

Image Our total is now 28 Lunie reindeer! Well done! Congratulations to danwho, Steve W and Jeff M on earning the Concept2 first level donation!

At various points during this seasonal challenge, international versions are presented. Today is the day for Italy, since danwho has earned his reindeer. Oh the pressure!

La Befana, the old woman who delivers gifts on Ephiphany (January 6) is still the more popular custom, but Italy is starting to celebrate Christmas more with their version of Santa Claus....Babbo Natale. Naturally, the reindeer are Italian versions of Dasher, Dancer, etc. These are: Cometa, Ballerina, Fulmine, Donnola, Freccia, Saltarello, Donato, Cupido (Comet, Dancer, Dasher, Prancer, Vixen, Donder, Blitzen, Cupid).

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 12.10.16

Image Another episode... it's the javelina version...

Love the Southwestern buttes and mesas....but I gotta say that the drive from Albuquerque to Tucson is rather underpopulated. Many signs warning of gusty winds and dust storm probabilities. Rattlesnake warnings at the rest stops. Aerie, now ten months old and tired of being cooped up, made a dash for freedom as the hatch was slowly closing following one such rest stop. I had just taken her leash off, so she was unfettered. I tried to grab her as we were only 50 feet or so from a very busy freeway...and was not successful. So I screamed. I am not a screamer, but I screamed. And she stopped, and came back doing the sheep ear thing that retrievers do. For the next many miles, I still had the shakes as I thought about what a Discovery Channel moment almost happened.

Speaking of Discovery Channel, we've been on several walks since our arrival and there are lots and lots of new smells and different wildlife. But I wasn't prepared to run into a javelina. These things are somewhat potbelly pig size, and like moose don't see well. And they may look so cute....for pigs...but be careful. They attack more by heat signature, or like most things, if cornered. It wasn't until I was retracing my steps that I realized that I had passed a home where the trash cans had been upended by javelina. They usually travel in small family batches, and apparently there is a javelina family with some babies in the neighborhood. Josephina Javelina...not (a fun storybook for kids).

Welcome back to Capn Kristine! Suspected that with both sons in the military now that you and Keith are like free birds - getting to do a lot of different things. Was hoping that rowing was still one of them! For those new to the team, Kristine created our forum pages these many years ago...and we would not be here without her.

Siamo spiacenti Rudolph, nessun suino nella barca. Nemmeno quelli cute con nasi rossi.
Sorry Rudolph, no pigs in the boat. Even the cute ones with red noses.

WOWZER, indeed. Next up, the glowing red nose for Dasher?

Day 19 of 31...so we've just 12 days to go...be mindful of the gap between your current meters and your destination!

Meanwhile, back in the southwestern desert, I'm also mindful of the gap between my meters and my intended meters (but the job jar is getting emptied as chores get done!)...and the holiday decorations continue to be different. I've written a lot about ice luminaries, because they are fun to make...but the more traditional luminaries are paper bags with sand in the bottom, and a candle centered on the sand. The Tucson Botanical Gardens did a fine job with this. I do like the cactus Santas...
