Hey gang!

I have today and tomorrow to row, but then I leave Friday for a week. So I won't be able to contribute any meters. I hope we are still in #7 when I get back (unless you guys all do one-day 100Ks or something and we're in #6!)

I love the Taff team spirit, it really gets me motivated to row! I used to be a Forum Flyer, but there was no sense of belonging to anything or anyone caring how the team was doing. In fact I had forgotten I had even signed up to be on that team.

Go Taffs!

Carla

Hearty Congratulations to the Amazing Ancient Mariners. (It actually feels good to still be "too young" to join something. Not many such groups like that left for me.)

Fellow Taffians,
U of New Mexico has double the amount of members, and are only 500k meters in front of us. Let's dig deep and get those meters logged. U of NM will be the next to feel the sting of Taff Attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speedy

Have been meaning to post but needed something good - here it is:

Tonight, in a sleepy Welsh town, two Taffs (Chris and Rob) with a desire for pain held a Regatta. It was called The Risca Regatta of Regret.

We decided to use the handicapping system on the UK site. As we discussed it I could see Rob's apprehension. He didnt think his predicted time of 7:08 was enough to beat my prediction of 6:55. I ran it through the handicap (when he wasn't there!) and was suprised at the result, it put us only a second apart. Game On!

Rob wanted to go first (he couldn't face watching me knowing he had to go through it too). We set the pace boat at 1:47, which he manged to stick to the entire time, and beat it through the tape to finish in 7:07 dead (and he was judging by the way he swore up the street after it!). Great effort taking 11 seconds off his previous best!

I was not happy, I ran his time throught the site and got an adjusted time of 7:09.6. I worked backwards to find my time and was dismayed to find it at 6:53.8

We set the pace boat at 1:43.5 and off I went. I had a great start but knew I could never hold it. Then I had to sit there for 1200 meters, and watch him eat up my lead, and then actually pass me. In the last 500 meters I asked for more and was suprised to find it (pace boat makes a huge difference!). I got the pace down to 1:42's and clawed back to finish 0.8 seconds in front.

Great, great experience soon to be repeated. Any suggestions of how to improve the set up, or other entrants will be most welcome.

Chris and Rob
Not quite loving the pain as much as we'd hoped!

Same with 5 sec. I wish I could do that.

As far as coming your way. I'll be trying to get the free ride to Amsterdam this year with USIRT. That's about as close to Wales as I'll make it this year. But the future Mrs. is wanting to go back to G.B. sometime in the near future, so we could definitely drop your way.

FYI - I do all my best erging in garage type settings. Country clubs aren't all what they're hyped up to be.

You want to thank me for the help, and I appreciate that. But remember, all I did was supply you with a tool. The two of you put it to use and did all the hard work. If you want to really thank someone, look in a mirror!! Keep it up and you'll be in Beijing in '08.

Speedy
