Piers - hope you get over the cold soon.

John - great work to get the 30' 8k!

Glenn - nice bit of momentum you have going - long may it continue.

Paul - good luck with your 2ks tomorrow - particulalry the one in the middle!

WIRC today - 2k race. A really positive experience, and a great event - though my time of 7:06.7 was slightly disappointing. I ramble on a bit about it in the Competition forum here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=151447.

Hey guys, I know it's been a little while since I logged in. I'm still plugging away though, completed week 11 day 2 8x500 with a new record. Finally broke 2:00 for one of my 500m splits. Gave me some type of realization of how hard it's going to be to do a 8 minute 2k. I'm still looking forward to getting there but I know I have a ways to go.

BPP Week 14.4 8000m DF118

30:00.0 6,535m 2:17.7 134 761 24 141
6:00.0 1,295m 2:19.0 130 747 24 130
12:00.0 1,292m 2:19.3 129 743 24 134
18:00.0 1,302m 2:18.2 132 754 24 141
24:00.0 1,297m 2:18.7 131 750 25 145
30:00.0 1,349m 2:13.4 147 805 27 155

Target was 2:19 as a lazy UT2 row, felt like I wasn't pushing it enough, so I upped the SPM.

@paul - way to keep churning.

@rohan - great work and fun watching the video. Even as a noob I can see how the fast guys like you have much better technique, not knowing the times I think could still run around the room and tell who was around 7'.

@glenn - on your 3 x 20' how would you characterize your HR range of 146-158? UT2? UT1? Trying to come to grips with what it takes to do a combined distance that long with out (me) rating way down to survive it. And a 30' run, geez...

Glenn, that's a lot of steady meters in the bank, great stuff.

Paul, ouch the .1 must have hurt, next time you'll nail it I'm sure.

PP 5.3.1 4x1k
Previous 1.45.5 (best 1.45.1)
1:45.0 r29
1:44.8 r29
1:44.9 r29
1:45.6 r30
Avg 1:45.1 r29
MHR 169

Went off a bit fast so was hurting on the 3rd, so started easier on the 4th and couldn't quite sprint it in. Another reminder of how tough it's going to be to hold 1:45/1:46 for that middle 1k. Something didn't feel quite right today though, could be 2 days of rest is too much or stale after 5 cycles.

LW - My UT2 HR tops out at 149 according to the IP (and assuming my max and resting rate are close enough to being accurate). I was definitely into UT1 on that last one, but I had pushed the pace faster to right at bottom of UT1. At that point there was also some cardiac creep going on - I had a wild and crazy evening the night before. The day before I did 4 sets of 20' all at UT2 HR and at 2:08 avg pace. It has taken me a long time to be able to keep HR pretty stable to a pace and pretty stable along the length of a session. TBH - rating down actually makes my HR go higher since the push is harder. For me, doing 2:08 pace at r22/23 is easier than doing it at r19/20 from a HR standpoint.

It was an interesting watch. Some of the guys in the video are absolute machines!

10k to do tonight and I really want to get it under 41mins, only about 12 seconds to knock off my time though so it should be doable.

It was a fun video to watch. I see what I'm doing wrong now. All I need to do now is to rate up to 37 or so and hold it for 6:40 and I'm golden!!

Second day back to rowing today. Yesterday was an hour @ 2:20 just to work out again. Still seemed tough for that slow. Today was 50 minutes @ 2:11 pace. Much better today than yesterday, even with the faster pace. I'll probably do 2-3 weeks of just SS work and then join back in the intervals.

First of all Rohan and Piers, it's been an absolute pleasure to have your advice on this thread as well your encouragement and I wish you well at the BRIC. I am in London that weekend, so really do hope that I can meet up with you both and John as well. It would be great to put faces to your names.

So, I have just had a week off - partly by choice, partly work enforced. Done a few kilometres of rowing and some swimming but back on the BPP today. In the meantime well done to all on the training, some great times posted too many to mention but especially great stuff from Tim (@Litewait) and @Street (Andy are you sure you qualify as a Beginner!!)

BPP Week 13 Day 1

10000 row. Target same pace as last time (2:12.7).

Actual: 44:05.4 \ 10000 \ 2:12.2

So annoyed that I didn't check the pace before I set off because that 05.4 irritates. Had I realised a 2:12.0 would take me sub 44 I would have gone for it. A new PB anyway (third in a row at 10k) so can't be too displeased. Next time.......

BPP Week 15.1 10,000m DF118

45:26.1 10,000m 2:16.3 138 774 24 141
9:12.8 2,000m 2:18.2 133 757 25 127
9:13.2 4,000m 2:18.3 132 754 23 132
9:05.1 6,000m 2:16.2 138 774 24 145
9:07.0 8,000m 2:16.7 137 771 25 143
8:47.9 10,000m 2:11.9 152 822 27 159

First time I actually felt "good" on a long row. HR was much lower first 5k than my last 3 10k's at the same rate. Must be gaining a measure of fitness. Beat my best by almost a second so I must be doing something right.

@mike - great to have you back.
@gordon - nice 10k as usual way ahead of me on the pond.
@street - good money you break 41' tonight.
@paul - keep knocking them down, great work.
For me, doing 2:08 pace at r22/23 is easier than doing it at r19/20 from a HR standpoint.
@glenn - Amen brother. This one I am going to put on my gravestone. I bet if I went r19/20 on any sizable distance I'd HD for sure.

Hi everyone, have been away from here for the last four weeks. No way to catch up with all the posts but great to see so many still working away at the PP. I was travelling for 2 1/2 weeks, with no rowing and only occasional short runs, and it has taken me til now to get back on the wagon. A few slow SS rows last week but determined to restart the PP today.

PP week 11 (after 4 weeks break) Sprint intervals.
Last time this was at 2:02.9 r27. Thought I'd do the comeback row at ~2:05-2:06 and then speed up after the 1k if I felt ok.

250 2:05.4 r28
500 2:04.9 r27
750 2:04.6 r26
1000 2:04.9 r27
750 2:04.1 r27
500 2:02.4 r28
250 1:56.8 r30

Avg 2:03.9 r27

So about a second down after almost a month away, which is better than I was expecting. And that last 250 felt good :D
Look forward to rejoining you guys!
Sanz

Nice work Sanz. I'm back too after two weeks with the flu and two weeks of vacation. So for me, nearly a month off unfortunately. Really paying the price right now. Good work Tim. Long rows are always hard for me too.
