No offense, but you're ruining the atmosphere all of the time with your childish remarks and behavior.

You simply do not conduct yourself in a mature manner on here, most of the time.

Oh ive been busting a gut and i feel great, times are very slow but much faster before
i started plan and that's all that matters believe you me 50.8 seconds quicker on a 5k (not test), but your right i can be a tad
out of order at times, so i will not stop my training but i will leave this forum as you requested.

A lot to be happy about that's for sure being alive for one
Paul, i have nothing against you at all, i think you know this. I also think what you are doing on the erg is good stuff, at least you are getting off of your arse and doing something, nobody can ever bash that.

I just think you could handle things that are said to you, in a more respectful and civilized way (less drama and confrontation) I don't see any other drama on here from other members, just you, time and time again. It's not just coincidence but rather that you keep bringing it on yourself.

John - bring on the BIRC for you! Very impressive stuff out of you.

Henry - I really respect you (and your advice has helped me immensely). Please let Paul train on his own pace. He's shown steady improvement and I give Paul credit for joining in with us. He was coaching from the sidelines initially and I challenged him to join in and to his credit, he's been very steady. For that matter, he's lasted longer than me (temporarily). If he's giving his all right now, I believe him. I think that Henry in your "unfit" days you probably are nearly the fittest of all of us. Hard to compare you on a down year to anyone. I've been way out of shape myself so I can relate to Paul. Glad he's back on the horse so to speak. For his family, I want him to keep it up and succeed (and Paul, I think that's all Henry wants too).

Let's please keep it all civil and positive. Thanks!

BPP Week 14.1 10,000m DF115 ( half way there! )

45:51.3 10,000m 2:17.5 134 761 24 144
9:15.0 2,000m 2:18.7 131 750 23 134
9:12.5 4,000m 2:18.1 133 757 23 138
9:15.4 6,000m 2:18.8 131 750 24 142
9:11.9 8,000m 2:17.9 133 757 25 148
8:56.4 10,000m 2:14.1 145 798 26 159

Tried yesterday stopped at 5k 2:19 heart was racing for some reason. Today better, SS high UT2 tried to give it a bit of a blast at the end. These distances are really more of a test of my arthritic pelvic joints, if could stretch every 3k I think I'd do much better or at least enjoy it more.

@gordon - like your comment, I know my attitude about getting on the erg would be way different had I not found this thread, I think the only way I can challenge you is by posting every day so you know there is a yankee far behind you in the pond ...chasing you.

Thanks Rohan.

It would be memorable, at least. :)

Haha, I think I just enjoy suffering.. So much so that I've just booked a week off in January to head up to Scotland to do some winter climbing. Hopefully I'll see the benefits of the rowing on the walk ins.
That's a top qualification for future improvement.
JohnAd wrote: John N, it was the HR graphs I was looking at, I find it interesting to see how differently people respond to the start of each rep.
Yes, the HR graphs always tell an interesting story. It would be good to see more HR graphing. The slope of HR vs time on different constant effort levels and also the response to pace changes is interesting, in the HR charts.

Paul- It wouldn't be the same without you here. Your steady work is an encouraging example.

Everyone - Though I haven't logged in for a few days, the forum looks as active as ever. I finished the 3rd week of second cycle of PP and now holiday things and other matters are interfering with being able to keep a training schedule. Changed my avatar to an idle, empty wooden Viking-style boat, until I can participate in the forum regularly again.

Keep up the good work, everyone.

@ Litewait. Tim, you're absolutely right, it's having a Yankee on my tail that keeps me going!! You've got nearly five years on me too, so you'll certainly pass me at some point. Your recent 10k was pretty impressive. This thread has just been great for motivation.

On that note, forgot to post my last set of figures - BPP Week 12 Optional Day 5 (did that last Sunday) - 4 x 800m, targeting similar pace to the same set in Week 9.

Actual (target in brackets):

1: 3:08.1 / 800 / 1:57.5 (1:57.0)
2: 3:07.9 / 800 / 1:57.4 (1:57.6)
3: 3:03.1 / 800 / 1:54.5 (1:55.6)
4: 3:02.0 / 800 / 1:53.7 (1:54.7)

Really busted a gut to get under 3min on that last rep, but not quite there yet. Next time......

Way to go LW and Gordo, keep it rolling

5 x 800 4:30R - HR was 6 beats below the normal ending 185 which makes me happy. Just trying to pace them so I finish and build some confidence and fitness.

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes it's been quite a journey since the 1st August when I sat down to do a 5k test at the start of the BPP and pulled 1:58.8. I'm not sure how sensible it was at that point to be think I'd be able to get down to sub7 for a 2k but it seems within reach finally. To Jack's questions, I'm not sure if the break has helped or put me back, the shock of going slower when I got back from holiday did help galvanize me when otherwise I might have found it tough to keep pushing but on the other hand the sub 7 would almost certainly be history if I'd not taken a break. One thing I'm wondering that may be helping me keep going is targeting 5 days a week on average rather than 6, the step up from 3 days to 5 days was pretty steep, going to 6 days a week in week out may have put me over the edge.

Tim, well done for having a another crack after bailing yesterday but the dodgy hip thing sounds bad, what sort of pain do you get and how does it come on? Is there any chance it's technique related.

Gordon/Glenn, nice 800s. Gordon, good to see you being drawn into the whole numbers game :)

@john - wish it was technique, I suffer from psoriatic arthritis (like rheumatoid) my joints are painful 24x7. Rowing is really the only exercise I can tolerate, refuse to take drugs that are as likely to kill me as cure me.

Tim, I echo the words of John. Mental strength is half the battle and you have it in spades.

By the way, I clicked the link to you training log and I got an 'access denied'. Any idea why? Also, how do you post a link, as I could do the same?

Gordon I think you need to be logged in on the log site to view other peoples logs. I could see the link fine.

Tim/Piers - thanks and apologies being a bit thick there. Signed into the on-line C2 log and then of course it does allow me to access the logbook.

NP Gordon, to post a link you can either just paste in the link to your training log, but you will need to make open to view in by logged in users in your profile privacy settings. If you want to get fancy you can use 'forum code' to make a link.

Code: Select all

My training log
that code will work in a post, or you could add it to your signature (I think I have got your id number right, but can't check until you change your privacy settings)
