Ro - glad you are well. You might consider "training through" the first 2K then tapering for BIRC. And you probably only need to taper the last week. Like a hard session the Saturday before, a short hard one on Tuesday then just short and snappy the rest of week.

John if it was OTW it would be a very short race (like the first stroke) - assuming I could actually manage to get in the boat without capsizing!JohnAd wrote:Which race are you doing, is it OTE or OTW?Bloodbuzz Corio wrote:I actually have my first race on Saturday week

Actually going to take the train across to Cardiff for the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships on the 26th. I've not been to Cardiff since I moved to the UK a few years ago, and thought if I was going to all this trouble to try to get faster for a race may as well do 2! Plus with the unfamiliarity of the race software and start, possible limits on warm up etc thought I may as well go through all that twice too.
Also - great work on your 8x500 there - definitely looking forward to your 2k taster then then seeing the real thing on Dec 10!

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Rohan, doing an extra comp is an excellent idea and that looks alike a good comp. Looking at last years times is a bit scary though as I'd be pleased to come in last in the 40+ HWTs.
I'm very much looking forward to my 2k taster on Friday being over rather than the test itself but I've got to try and finish one so I don't think it will be a PB, it'll almost certainly be an SB though as long as I finish.

I'd be curious what the gurus say about this. I've used it last two races and it seems to work OK:

Back at it (finally) today. 10090 or so in 45 minutes (around a 2:13 pace). Wasn't able to get on a rower immediately at the gym (which is unusual). I had to skip the short intervals yesterday and do the SS today. I'll join right back in the PP tomorrow with the intermediate intervals.

@ John N.: I notice NOW that the Kiwi 2k plugin is a pace rather than HR zone generator.
Does it work for you in excel? I had no luck with Excel 13. I can input the TT pace. Prompt to permit editing and I did that but no joy. VALUE### in every cell! Oh well.
@ G-dub: Taper advice looks generic. Reduce volume, rest, have a protein shake. What counts is if it works for you. Is the person responsible for the taper schedule Brandy Mulligan?

BPP Week 13.1 10,000m DF114
5:45.1 10,000m 2:17.2 135 764 24 143
9:17.5 2,000m 2:19.3 129 743 24 132
9:11.4 4,000m 2:17.8 134 761 24 137
9:08.6 6,000m 2:17.1 136 767 24 146
9:10.0 8,000m 2:17.5 135 764 25 145
8:57.6 10,000m 2:14.4 144 795 26 159
Yesterday could barely survive 8,000m, today much better (last 10k's were 2:18.0 and 2:17.6), finding living with a higher than I want SPM really helps me with the weak drive I get at DF114. Renamed the 10,000m the "psoriatic arthritis pelvic joint crusher".

@glen - well done, watching the watts climb like that means you were on the pipe big time.G-dub wrote:Proud of this one! Felt pretty great all the way. I feel like I'm back in the game for a minute!

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
LW - I usually use 112 or so for long rows like 10K. But tonight I flipped it up to 118 while warming up and noticed a bit of difference in pace per stroke - it felt more connected through the whole stroke. I ended up using 127 on the 500's which is still on the low side for some. Have you played around with different drags?

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
@glen - yes I usually for interval sessions use 124-127. I've messed with anywhere from 109 to 123 on longer distances. I just have too weak and short drive to not up the SPM to 24 to keep the flywheel moving at lower DFs. Of course if I up the DF on longer sessions towards the last 1-2k I have to rate up anyway as my legs begin to burn out. Jealous of everyone that can do a long distance at 19/20, with my low wattage I'd spend all my energy trying to get the flywheel spinning each stroke. Other option would be to pace down into the 2:20's but I refuse to do that, as crippled as I am, as long as my HR doesn't get out of control I'll up the SPM to keep the pace down. Not optimal, but that for now is what I have to work with.

Nothing wrong with r24 anyway. You and I aren't the tallest guys on the forum, so we need to go up and down the slide a few more times to make up for it.
