Managed to squeeze in the 40-4-40 today, so that's another one ticked off.

I was actually convinced that it was on Friday - kind of made more sense that it would be on the 4th, given all the fours in the challenge - so I turned in a very tired 10k on Friday after I got home from work only to find the challenge was today!

Right need to prepare for the Holiday Challenge now - I doubt I'll be able to push as hard as I did in the FTC, but with the season of indulgence on the way, I probably should :-)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Post by sisaacso1 » November 9th, 2016, 1:10 pm

I just joined the team, have only been rowing for about 6-7 weeks. I have been rowing 5-6 days a week, sometimes twice a day (2-3 days a week). My times have been improving and I have watched a lot of videos to improve my technique and get tips. I was just wondering if someone could give me direction in drag factor. It seems the most recommended drag factor is 130-135, which is what I do for my 2k (7:15 PB). I was wondering what most rowers do for other races though, specifically the following distances ;
500m
1k
5k
10k
HM
I have not rowed a half marathon yet, just the 10k. When I row the 10k, my feet start to go numb toward the end, not sure what will happen when I attempt the 1/2 marathon. Anyway, I am really new to rowing, but I love it. I am 46, 6' tall, and weight is 185, not sure if that would make a difference on the drag factor recommendations. I am trying to get my time down so I can compete in the Salt Lake indoor rowing championship in February and don't want to be embarassed :D

Welcome aboard! I am no expert, but if you are already rowing 7:15 PB for the 2K after only rowing for 6 or 7 weeks, you are off to an excellent start. My own PB for the 2K is 6:38.5 and I rowed that when I was 46, like you, but I have been rowing for many years.

There are Training forums on this C2 board, and Competition forums also. I bet you can get some great training advice on those boards. But I will share my experience. I typically row about 10K each time I row, and the drag factor is about 155. But when I was doing shorter distances for speed I would increase the drag factor, and when I did longer distances for speed I reduced the drag factor. That is just my experience, and is not advice.

Thanks for joining us!

None of us have participated in the SkiErg Sprints so far but we do have the Holiday Challenge at the end of the month.

Here is the Holiday Challenge info:
-Row and/or ski 100,000 meters or 200,000 meters from November 24 to 11:59 p.m. December 24.
-Support great causes with your meters!
-You do not need to be on a team to participate! Log your individual meters.
-Indoor rower and SkiErg meters only (no on water/on snow meters please). You can combine meters from each machine to reach the challenge goal.
-Kids Holiday Challenge allows kids (aged 16 and under) to participate at 50,000 meters.
-Adaptive athletes can choose to participate at the 50k, 100k, or 200k levels.
-Deadline for entering meters: 11:59 pm GMT, January 4th.

If you log 200k, Concept2 will send you a pin (which my cat decided was a cat toy).
I'm going to set a goal of 200k. I am in no shape for 200k and I will be away some of the days but I want a pin. LOL! This is going to hurt.

I do hope you are having a nice weekend wherever you are.
Row strong!
-Angela P

This is a stupid question I am sure, but how do we post meters to the team room? I just joined a team for the first time and am not sure how you do that?

Not a stupid question. The easiest way would be to log them manually here: http://log.concept2.com/log

Alternatively you can use the log card if you have a smart card reader. Or connect your rower to your computer directly: http://www.concept2.com/service/softwar ... t2-utility

I use the ErgData app on my iPhone, but you need a special cable attachment. http://www.concept2.com/service/software/ergdata

I guess I don't understand. I log everything with my erg app and sync to the concept2 logbook. Looking through these posts I see lots of entries like the following;

4 posted meters on Saturday
Warren F 7,500
Angela P 7,454
Ken C 7,331
Adam M 6,000

How are these meters showing up in the posts is what I was wondering, and do fellow team members post them somewhere manually?

If you have joined our Affiliation TimbukTOO already, then Angela will track those meters manually for you. She picks them off of our Affiliation page here: http://log.concept2.com/affiliation/2040/season/2017

To join the TimbukTOO Affiliation, edit your Concept2 profile, and you will see a section on the left side that allows you to choose an Affiliation. To edit your Concept2 profile, go to the logbook page and look up in the very top right corner and click the icon.

Sorry if this is not clear; they have reworked the website since I last had to do any of these steps.

Hello--here I am creeping out from under my rock... . I haven't posted any meters since the end of July and since Angela prodded me with a "hey...where the hell are you?!" note (in much friendlier tones) I realized I better 'fess up to how little I've done in the last few months. I had yet another injury; my ribs were breaking like matchsticks... Anyway, I've had a bone density scan and though I'm below par I'm not in the danger zone yet. So (like Jim, as I noted in reading over the past few pages) I've taken up weight training again and hopefully will strengthen my bones. I guess all the weight training I did in my 40's protected me thus far, but there's no resting on one's laurels. Aging is not a forgiving pastime.

So, I have been slowly building up my rowing meters and have just managed to reach 10k per session, though not every day. Maybe the Christmas challenge will get me back on track.

I haven't managed to catch up on other's news, but from what I have read, people are quiet again. I hope everyone is well.

All the best,
Heather

Glad to hear from you Heather. Drink your milk and lift those weights. And get well!

If I don't log onto the forum, wishing all of the American teammates a happy thanksgiving. And peace, kindness and goodwill to all.

And the Holiday Challenge starts next week. I'll do my 200K for charity, and to keep the holiday pounds off.

Thanks for all your help coneljm, I think I got it now. I changed my affiliation, Angela emailed me also. I replied to her but it appears to just sit in my outbox, not sure if it takes awhile for the email to be sent? Your times are impressive, hopefully at some point I can approach those. Have you ever heard of "The Pete Plan"? I just started it this week and like it so far, have seen it mentioned on several other sites. Been doing my own thing for awhile, but thought this might give me a little more structure to improve my times (Did my 5k in 18:59.3 this morning! Don't know how I am ever going to get under 7:00 on the 2k, seems impossible at this point).
