PM5 dead?

Post by ewh » November 5th, 2016, 11:11 am

I got a brand new Model D + PM5 in July. Until yesterday, the PM5 was working correctly interfacing with the rower, ANT+ HR, ergdata on iOS. This makes it seem as if all systems are functioning (including external connectivity to rower generator and radio devices).

Yesterday the PM5 would not boot. I tried:
  • booting with batteries
  • booting without batteries (trying to use rower generator power only)
  • Units/Display/Reset-Button
All experiments resulted in no visible response from the PM5. Are there any chances the unit isn't dead? Is there some magical diagnostic procedure I haven't read about yet?

I'm pretty bummed as this rig was purchased brand new this July. (The PM5 appears to have been built in "2016/02".)

I'm also brand new to the world of C2. Is this sort of device unreliability expected with C2 electronics? Is C2 support pretty good about warranty support?

Thanks,

Weston

You haven't by any chance had it in an area where there is lots of moisture and condensation have you? Because this could explain it.

You don't hear of many PM5's just dying thats for sure. In fact, i personally have only seen a couple of instances in total where the PM5 was definitely deemed a faulty product right out the box

PM5 failures are rare. There is a re-set button that can be accessed with a paper clip, flip it over and you'll see a hole where it can be re-set. As stated call C2 for tech support. Their customer service is the very best, bar none. If it's bad they'll send ya a new one.

There was a problem on some of the early PM5's with the plastic cover that held the batteries in. This might be what is being seen. They sent me a new plastic cover (thirty second replacement). Link: http://www.concept2.com/service/monitor ... uct-notice
