I thought this month's 300 metres would be a cake walk, but the shorter the race the more explosive the muscle contractions. I like the idea of the CTC too, something fresh each month to try. We're glad your with us for the CTC, Round the World Row and all of the other challenges we'll face down the road (down the river?)

Great rowin' hosers.
We are now into Mauritania
It is probably not a rowing mecca.

My apologies on not keeping everyone up to date on new members of the Eh!Team.
Mark Read of Victoria, Peter Boucher of Manchester, Conneticut and Scott Broussard of Duson, Louisiana are the newest members of the Eh!Team.

After the disastrous experience of not being able to get my rowbot out of the gates while I was at Whistler, I have been working on updating the website. It will have a different look and feel than the current site and my number one priority is getting the rowbot to function where ever I am.

The new site will be able to keep up-to-the-minute updates from C2 and better reflect our progress.

Keep on rowin'

Jim
Whoa Jim. All this desert rowing and not a beer in sight.

If you want to really get scared, check out http://andyinmauritania.blogspot.com/
"we tried some homemade millet beer, which wasn't too bad for fermenting porridge, unfiltered so lots of chunks"

I guess things might start picking up around Singapore, eh?
Nice pull on the 300 meters Kirk. You are inspiring me to get out and tug on that chain harder - maybe later on today.

We are slowly inching our way across the Western Sahara. Once we hit Dakar we will turn east and essentially travel all the way back across the Sahara and Africa to Cairo.

These are 2 of the longest legs of our journey around the world. Every meter counts, so if you keep posting your meters to your Concept2 log book, I will get them posted to the Around the World Row site and the google earth file.

Keep on rowin', hosers.

Jim

Well, I can't keep up with most of you, but I'm happy to post that I improved my CTC 300m time from 59.4 to 58.0. Still feel there is room for improvement - still trying to feel my way through how my body wants to do this.
Last week, I tried at damper 5, and then I tried at damper 6, and was a little faster at 6. Since I normally row at damper 3, this was a significant change.
This week I went back to damper 5. My back was just a little sore last week, possibly because of the damper 6 attempt, possibly because I did it twice before doing my normal workout. So this time, I did neither. I stuck with 5, and just tried to increase my spm. And I had to keep reminding myself this wasn't aerobic so don't keep thinking about settling into some breathing rhythm. And I did better. Should be able to try a couple more times before the end of the month.

John, how is your back doing?

Great job on the CTC Dan and Kirk. You've really got that boat moving!!!

John, how is your back doing?
[/quote]

The back is coming along (I think) Dan. I've rowed the last three days with a bit of speed yesterday. I'm still going to play it safe for a bit and mix some rowing with running and road biking (on the wind trainer.) That is a nice surprise, I feel pretty good on the bike, definately a result of the erg. I'll row over the summer but I'm thinking of getting in a bit of racing too with the bike. There are some great trails up here for mountain biking so another reason to get in bike shape is to take advantage of the longer trails. If anybody considers coming to the Yukon anytime in the future I'd be glad to point out some trails that will take your breath away! John

Stiff back.
2nd attempt DF 142, try to keep pulling to a target. Felt I couldn't keep up the speed near the end, back felt better though.
3rd atempt DF 153, pull to a target. Back only felt like it had done some work, not what I'd call sore.
Good luck, don't get hurt.
Kirk

I guess with the different muscle groups being thrown in the erg makes the body work harder because I can't pull 7600m in 30 min, never mind carry on a conversation.
I'm looking to try some local TT's on the road this summer. Nice and safe, no body contact.

Cheers,
Kirk

Hi everybody!
I got my own C2 last Thursday and signed up for the Eh! Team today. This "Around The World Row" looks like a great challenge, and I would love to participate (if you don't mind getting some strokes from Europe  ). Still pretty slow, but I hope I can add a few meters every day to help you cross the desert :D .
Brigitte

I see on your profile that you can already row for an hour at a time. That is very good for someone just starting out. Just be careful of your back. There is lots of information on the forum on how to avoid back trouble. If you use the search function it should bring up some good information. From my own experience, work on having good posture, keep the damper setting low, and stretch well after each row. If you want to work on your speed, you might be interested in joining some of us who participate in the Cross Team Challenge (c2ctc.com). It's a great motivator and we look at success by particitation, not how fast you can go. Thanks for joining us and if you have any questions let us know :)

Thank you for the warm welcome, John!!! :) This forum is really a great source of information, and I already read a lot these past days. Although I did a little indoor rowing ages ago, I guess I learned more from the people in this forum than from my trainer back then. I try to keep a good posture (studying Xeno's stroke cykle has been a great help), so I'm happy to say that my back feels pretty good ... I only feel it when I lapse back into bad form again. I tried a lower damper setting (3 instead of 5) and slower SPM (down from 25-27 to 20-23) for my 10K today, and although I was even slower, I felt I could row more easily that way. Still experimentig what works for me ... So I guess for now I will pass on the Cross Team Challenge, beacuse I'm really not a sprinter, but maybe on the next one.

And a big Thank You to Jim for organizing the Around The World Row and setting it up on Google Earth!!! It was fun to see that I'm already on the map :? WOW! :D :D :D

Happy rowing everyone!
Brigitte
