Thank you. Thank you. Hopefully on track for a 2 million meter season.
You know, it never would have occurred to go for a 2 million season before I became a Lunatic.
But it's all worth it ... now where I do get that skeleton snow globe from Cafe Press?

Does Not Compute

Post by just27 » November 1st, 2016, 2:32 pm

Around midnight, when trying to download Monday's post trick-or-treat meters, I kept getting error messages that made me think it was time to order a new log card. But, today, we're back in business. I'd hoped it was C2, updating their utilities in the wee hours of the morning, so I can delete some previous workouts. But, darn, "manage stored results" is still "coming soon."

Noted. Added a calendar reminder for 108 years from today. No stones, please.
Hmmm, 108-8-7 might have been a better choice. Ah, hindsight, like K2's adjusted peepers, is 20-20-too.

Lest ye fergit... A not-so-cuddly traveler on one of K2's Bunny Trails reminds us that DST ends this weekend. Unless you row in the morning, get ready to row in the dark. (Okay, I know I set Thor up for a zinger.)

Image Time to turn back time...(thanks to danwho!)

Image Appropriately...another episode of Bunny Trails of the Mind.

We're always trying to get more out of our time, or more out of our daylight. Depending upon how close you are to the equator, your seasonal variance in daylight can be pretty extreme. Those summer nights in Alaska are seemingly endless, and the winter daylight there is an eye blink. But today's bunny trail is about ancient clocks. Tick tock tick tock was pre-dated by the sounds of water flowing.

Clepsydra - not a word previously in my vocabulary, and maybe not in yours either, but after today it will be. Clepsydra means water thief (some of you may have guessed that thief would be part of this meaning), and a clepsydra is/was a water clock. These devices measure time either by means of water flowing into, or out of, a container. Like our sands of time, the amount was calibrated to represent a specific amount of time. One reference even suggests that the phrase "don't muddy the water" came from the idea that you didn't want any silt in the water plugging up the hole that the water would flow through on these devices. Here's a two minute oldie style video on water clocks and their place in time-keeping device evolution.
