Anth I just got caught up on your injury on the training board. I hope you're better soon. Don't rush it, a set back would be a bummer.

John, thanks for the welcome. I'm surprised, that there is only one John in the thread, up til nowJohnAd wrote:John, welcome great to have another one on board, look forward to seeing your progress.

It's taken longer than anticipated to read through all these posts and finally get up to this post of yours which is at the moment within about 10 pages from the most recent addition to the thread.
I've been reading about your progress and the progress of everyone else with great interest
As for my progress with the Pete Plan, it is still in the baseline stage of the first three weeks, so I'm an easyrider compared to what most of you have worked up to by now in both the PP and BPP. I chose the regular plan, because although I feel like a beginner when I read a lot of what is said in this forum, I have been using the C2 erg for over a decade and the BPP looked like it would restrict my daily meters a bit too much.
I'm beginning the second week of the first time through the Pete Plan.
Session details for what I did today can be found at the following link-> http://etherealrowing.com/pete-plan-cyc ... teady-15k/
And all the rest of what I've done so far in 9 days of Pete Plan can be found at this link http://etherealrowing.com/?s=Pete+Plan
Best regards to you, John, and everyone else who makes up this great forum group.

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Mike, thanks for the kind words. For more than 25 years, before discovering indoor rowing, I did daily runs that were long and slow. Usually at least an hour a day and sometimes as long as three hours. I mostly ran in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. My favorite time of the year to run was in the hottest part of the summer, when running slow was the BEST speed and the temperature was as high as 120+ F (48+ C) but the speed at which I ran was slow in the winter, also.mdpfirrman wrote:Welcome John N! I'd like to add for your 70 years young you're a bad ass based on your SB times!! I'll do my best to keep up with you. Your SB times are really impressive.
All that long, slow running must be why I seem to have a good aerobic base for rowing and enjoy the longer sessions more than the sprints.
Speaking of bad asses - everyone in this forum is a bad ass! - - - Rowing in hot rooms without a/c in the summer, rowing until starting to have tunnel vision or temporarily losing hearing, rowing when sick or forcing themselves NOT to row when sick, rowing so hard that a feeling of nausea lasts for 5 minutes afterwards... are just a few of the examples of what I've read so far in this forum that come to mind! A general bad-ass attitude seems to be what everyone brings to rowing in this forum.
You are a group of determined guys, exploring the boundaries of rowing where you have not gone before and finding what's on the other side of each new pace/distance/rating combination challenge you take on. It's been inspiring to read up to now and I look forward to participating on a more regular basis.
Best regards to you and everyone.

Get real. Jack is a 69 year old lwt. You are a 40 something heavyweight. 18.6 secs improvement on 750m intervals with a finishing average of 2:06.8 is nothing to crow about.
And btw, since you like dishing out advice, when you row your distance pieces @ 2:16 try at least dropping the rate to 18. You might break sweat that way.
Anyway, never fear, Pete told me he will be emailing you soon to make it all better

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
missed the first two sessions of 2.2 unfortunately. Got caught in a work storm then stupidly tweaked my back lifting a patient solo and in a rush. Very frustrating indeed but will try to be sensible as this week disappears without trace - not used to injuries though.

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
After a couple of weeks away I got on the erg this morning. Unsurprisingly I was far less able than I was two weeks ago, and I thought I was struggling then! Deciding whether to go back to the beginning of the BPP or start again at W3. Either way, I will be starting again at a slower speed than the 2:18 avg I was aiming for before. I believe that pace was a pushing me around my AT or above and not necessarily building much of an aerobic base, or at least not as much as intended.
Someone said on here that all the BPP sessions are meant to be hard...that they're not really SS. From the little I know, I agree. I was confused at how I was able to manage the pace relatively comfortably one day, but then get nowhere near it a couple of days later. On reflection, I think the recovery was the issue as much as anything. Physically and mentally, I wasn't always ready for the next session.
Anyway, I know a lot more about my body than I did! And I look forward to getting stuck back in on a more sustainable path!

Paul sorry to have missed your 8x750 there, that is a huge gain from cycle 1 and a great last rep to set you up for an even lower average next time through - top stuff!

Pete told me that 6 posts on one page plus the use of too many emoticons isn't necessary to get a point across.

Again guys, keep the thread positive. This has been one of the most positive (and active) threads on the site for a while.
Paul - nearly all have been very supportive of you (including Glenn) on your improvements. You do have a slight tendency to get oversensitive. I'm happy for your progress (and so is everyone). I've disagreed with others but it didn't get so personal back and forth. I don't agree with Luke's SS days and told him as much. He very, very politely said he disagreed. It's his plan. But Paul, you do realize you make it hard on everyone even to encourage you out of fear we might walk through the thin ice or you might take something the wrong way. I'd personally like to encourage you more but worry something I might say could be misconstrued.
I've been questioned on my lifting on days of intervals (rightly so I might add) by around 5 people. It's out of concern on their part. I'm stubborn and refuse to stop lifting on my TT day and my fast interval day -- which I'm sure takes away from my performance. I know this though. I just thank everyone for their concern and move on and stubbornly refuse to change. But there is no bickering.
To everyone else - it's Paul's plan and he's working it as he sees fit. Let him do it how he would like to. Just keep it positive encouragement with Paul and don't offer advice, just compliments and we'll all live in harmony.
Enough divisiveness going on with the US elections. Don't need it on here. Thanks! Kum-ba-ya and all...
John - welcome again. Don't let this slight negative turn in the thread detract you on your progress. 95% of this thread has been positive.

PP 3.3.1 - 4 x 1000 r5’ Last time I did this was at 2:06.2 r26, so the plan was to start at 2:06 for the first interval and then see how that felt.
1k Intervals
1. 2:05.9 r26
2. 2:05.9 r27
3. 2:05.6 r26
4. 2:05.3 r29
Average 2:05.7 r27
Well that was harder than I was expecting, given I’d done the 750/1k/750 part of the waterfall at ~2:03.3 r27 last week. Legs were completely gone by the end of the final interval. Admittedly, a 5.30am workout may have contributed to not feeling as lively as I should have done.

Tim, Barry: Good 9000m sessions
welcome Street: Nice to have you and a nice 9000m from you as well.
miniNick: Start over or pick up where you left off but go at paces you can finish. The important part is to get consistent meters under your belt.
My row today:
BPP 9.2
4 x 800m /r2'
I hadn't done one of these before since I misread the distance the first time around as 500m instead of 800m. The 2 min rest really makes this one difficult. I made a plan. Set a target of 2:04.5, but pretty much screwed that up right from the start. Went out way to fast but decided to try and grit it out. The final times look good, but the actual execution was not pretty. 300m fast with high rating, 250m around around average pace and rating, 250m hold on or coast through the finish.

Hi everyone, I've not been in this thread for a while but I've still been rowing.
Last night I completed Week 7 of PPB with a 8000m. I really concentrated on bringing down the spm and happy to say I achieved it, averaging 24spm.
2000m splits
Split 1: 2:03.4 @ 23spm
Split 2: 2:05.6 @ 24spm
Split 3: 2:08.1 @ 24spm
Split 4: 2:11.9 @ 26spm
This felt like a different way of rowing compared to the earlier weeks. I was a completed beginner in Week 1 so my spm has reduced from 32+ down to 24 in that time.
My aim with an overall 2:07.1 average and I hit 2:07.2 - I just went out a little too quick in the opening splits. Things to work on for week 8.
