@mininick - read your post and feel for you. I felt the same last week, two awful sessions. Just keep going, I am new to this game and probably the last person you'd look to for advice but a lot of it is mentally toughing it out I think.

And thanks for your support. Homer (Simpson) said "trying is the first step to failure". I say that I'd rather try and fail, than fail by not trying. This plan gives me something to aim for, even if I don't always reach the targets I set! Whatever happens I should improve. In fact I feel the improvements already, and look forward to nailing my intervals session tomorrow. I laugh in the face of a mere 2x2000m :wink:

Pace front-loaded as a test of my nose for the redline. Could have held pace for 50' perhaps but not for the hour. Seemed like a lot of work to do at HR 164. Aborted at 30'.

Still a very good hard distance row Jack. I don't have a problem keeping that distance short on my hard distance days.

Waterfall session this evening. Last cycle was 1:44.7 and 25 spm. The intervals tonight were as follows:

3000 1:43.3 25 spm
2500 1:43.0 25 spm
2000 1:42.1 26 spm

Average was 1:42.9 and 25 spm. My last 4X2000 was at 1:42.4 and 26 spm. This workout felt much easier. I'm going to do as SS 10K in the AM, and weather permitting, have my 1st ever OTW class scheduled for the evening. I'm super excited!

6:48.4 2k following roughly a 6k warmup a second slower! Definitely ready for prime times, Joe. Don't know whether you will be sweeping or scullng. Good chance you will enjoy one or both but hope you won't get distracted from OTE competition before you've started!

Quick question on the Pete Plan 'Hard Distance' sessions...

How have you guys been deciding what to do on these days?

I did a 5k the first week. Planning to do a 6k tomorrow, then was thinking about doing a 2k test at the end of the third week.

Too soon?

To be honest I have no real desire to do a hard 10k anytime soon!

Like you I have no inclination to do a hard 10k however next month as part of the c2ctc.com have to do at least one, and will probably end up doing at least two.

If I get chance this week I will probably do a hard 30', although time is running out. You don't have to do ranking distances, and some people have found that not having a PB on makes those 'odd' distance rows rewarding.

As to the 2k, I can't remember but did you do a baseline test before you started?

Week before I started I failed a 2k test at 1650m - handled down at the point of almost falling off.

...which was why I decided to do the PP in the first place!

From what I understand it is probably too soon, but it's up to you of course as you are looking to improve your 2k time with no particular race in mind you will have to test it eventually!

I like to do the nonathlon, so one of those distances - if its a short distance, then i will just add a UT2 row to the end.

not sure what to call this:
SS or hard or ShardS...
its a longish row with rate changes - sort of like an eddy fletcher warm up on wolverine (Hel)l4 pills..
I might have posted it before -haven't done it for a while (about 6 weeks)...
my only guideline (for this one) is
Watts = 10 X rate (10W SPI)

The R18 "breaks" are sufficient to recover
