Several reasons:

1. Erging/rowing uses the lower body and upper body in a natural way (in comparison the upper body motion on most cardio machines feels like an afterthought with a limited ROM). I like the effect it has on the overall physique compared to cycling or running.

2. Erging is efficient and convenient. I can get a great workout in my living room in the amount of time it takes to watch a bad sit-com.

3. Erging is based on OTW rowing - I like the fact that my training is linked to an actual sport (to which I might return to one day). Try that with a Healthrider!

Because I can. 8)

It provides the best level of overall fitness anywhere, is not only demanding physically but technically and mentally, and on those rare occassions that it is done right there is no other feeling like a sweetly moving boat across smooth water.

In addition, it allows me to combine something that I really like to do with an opportunity to get paid for working with others that share a passion for the sport. It doesn't get much better than that!

For a whole bunch of reasons ...

Great full body workout on one machine or in one sport ...

Great ability to control weight and fitness level ...

A dream for someone like me who likes numbers, feedback, tracking, and planning ...

Variety of workouts possible ...

Internet and venue racing ...

Family and friends connections with rowing / erging ...

Meeting some really great people ...
