1335.1 watts or 1.8 horsepower. Considering that he weighs 430# and was rowing at a stroke rate of 56spm, there had to have been a considerable amount of unmeasured energy expended. The total effort might well have been a lot over 2.0HP.

Experiment with drag factor on this attempt- put it on max drag with cover off -so 342 today- despite heavy drag still managed to basically tie what I've been doing although heart rate was higher- these are character building rows  - just off again by 1 stroke 76 vs desired 74/75

Finished with 176lb KB swings x 29 reps (another rep "PR")

Bob I suspect he can hit a 0:59 or 1:00 low pull if he wants to and refines technique a bit

The only thing that caught my eye was that he didn't have much layback. Overall, his technique is a lot better than I expected. Like I said in an earlier post, "no wasted motion." In particular his hands moved in straight lines. At 56spm and 12.8s, the total number of strokes should be right on 12. But it seemed to me that there might have been as many as 14. Of course there might well have been a stroke or 2 that came after the odometer ran down to zero.

I thought I counted 18 strokes, regardless I think he should use his legs just a bit more

Yes, indeed. I am embarrassed that I missed that very obvious point. His shins are nowhere near vertical at the catch. It looked like a really long stroke, but I was forgetting that he is 6'8".

Sam Loch has offered to race Brian Shaw over 500m if Concept 2 can organise it! It's on his instagram but I can't post a screenshot here.

Those guys are so limited flexibility wise, hard to imagion for guys not even half his weight.

He proberly never rows also, so his body is totally not used to this motion. His arms move very smooth imo though. I think he would very much profit from the way you build your stroke. If he could get those legs a bit more involved..
Point remains, at those speed, the fan goes so rapidly, speed of motion begins to be the limiting factor.

There are now 3 guys pulling 12.9/128

12.9 Harvard 187 97kg
12.8 Ross 140kg ish?
12.8 Shawn 200kg plus

Showing that being super strong/big is difficult to convert into the flywheel motion.

Curious what he would do with the cover off -- anyone know if that's 'legal' for official C2 TT's?

Doc Baker -- you only need to bulk up a tiny bit. You know, increase your weight by about 90% LOL -- thinking you'll need some carbs for that. Either that or the price of meat will double where you live  sucks to be a cow!

There is a video online of Laurence Shahlaei - WSM competitor, 2 X britain's strongest man and 435kg deadlifter pulling a 1:15.something 500m on a model c with almost no technique

Found it

Above is my post from earlier in this thread - Laurence is not quite as big as Shaw, but still a 'massive' guy and crazy strong.

Better vid from Shawns 100m Wr

As often incorrect, the records was not 13.3, but 12.8 already, so this was a Tie. At rate 40 his technique looked better. Certainly room for extra.

Pretty bizar. At rate 40 it looked better.

Ps Bob S pointed me to my mixing up first and last name. Brian Shaw. Got it now.

With a bit training he very likely would find a bit more efficiency. Both speed (look at the hand) and raw power are beyond everybody.

And again- dropped drag to 255ish

Pacing decent- still just 1 stroke too many- Starting to get annoyed (11th attempt at this rate so far)

I think he can go 12.5

I don't think so, Shawn. I watched it with a metronome running and at 60 ticks a minute it was pretty darn close.
