Ummm, if you mean love it, I guess only in my increased overall fitness. However, I find it to be a tool, and thus would prefer to row on the water any other day. Of course, on a day when you're braindead, I'd rather just go erg. I don't have to think as much about my technique, which makes it nice after a big test or a couple of papers.

Eg would it not be the same if you swapped you erg for a different one?

I owned a model D for a couple of years, and sold it recently. I certainly had no attachment to it, though given a room of ergs I'd pick that one over any others.

So I ditched my erg, and am getting myself a wife in a little under 3 weeks, so I can't have loved the erg much at all. While your row indoors you get to interact with others. Rowing is the only form of exercise that I will do until I am six hundred years old. Besides all this, I came to realize that I feel like one of Benhur's slave rowers. However I enjoy it.

The New York office is ten times larger than we are, and has a gym. They organized a decathlon in their gym -- push ups, dips, etc. along with cycling, running, stair-climbing and rowing.

I heard about the results and organized a similar decathlon for the Los Angeles office. It was during the decathlon that I discovered C2.

The first positive thing was when I called C2 with a question about the erg. New York had as part of their requirements a damper setting of 10 (I know, I know). I read about how in competition you can use whatever setting you like, so I called to ask about that. Not only did the nice person at C2 answer the question, she sent me an owner's manual, the newsletter, and a few other things.

Then I actually tried the model C in the gym, and discovered I'm not half bad at it. I ended up winning that event with a 7:34 2K, and had a lot of fun watching very fit people suffer on the erg. More than one finished and said, "I will never do THAT again!" ;-)

That was back in February 2005. It took some time to save up to get my own erg. It now sits in the living room, and pretty much I don't watch TV unless I'm also rowing. Every time I have something new to report to the people at the office (marathon, new PB, etc.) I finish by saying, "I love my rowing machine!"

To be clear, I don't love my particular rowing machine -- I'd be happy with any rowing machine. I just love erging.

OK, let's face it ... if we had to choose between our ergs or our spouses, it would be a decision of the ilk of having to split the baby ... hate to even think about it ... it would be a miserible decision with no good result ...

:D

And the great thing for the next two weeks is that we can all watch the Olympics and get in our meters at the same time!

I too love my erg......my devotion simply to import it into China was enough.....China customs thought because it was called a "Concept 2" it was for some kind of prototype product that was for commercial use and I was forced to go out to the airport customs and make a written confession as to what it was and what I was using it for - (I offered to give them a demo and a go to see how they would go but they were not forthcoming).......if that is not love I am not sure what is.......

I had to go to the airport to clear customs, and explain why I imported it. I made the mistake of calling it a "machine" instead of "exercising equipment", which were two different duties categories. For OTW rowers it is closely related to argh (see also ugh), as in "argh, do we have to work out on those things today?" Ah, but at least you don't have to pick them up out of the water, hose them down and put them back on the racks (not to mention taking them out to the dock to launch in the first place). Also, you are not likely to swamp an erg (unless you live in an area subject to flooding).

Bob S.
