I heard the old Cat Steven's song the other day....it goes "I love my dog more than I love you...". It does take a relationship rocky patch to really understand what he was on about...

....but I did realise that I actually do love my inanimate object, my beloved C2, so much more than a whole load of girlfriends.....

So I was wondering, anybody else just love their erg??

I do not mean this to be a competition between the erg and a parter of any kind...just a bit of fun..... I realised that I am very sure that I will be erging with my machine a year from now - cant say the same about the lady

Cheers
RichardT

Do you mean your particular erg, or just generally? Eg would it not be the same if you swapped you erg for a different one?

I owned a model D for a couple of years, and sold it recently. I certainly had no attachment to it, though given a room of ergs I'd pick that one over any others.

So I ditched my erg, and am getting myself a wife in a little under 3 weeks, so I can't have loved the erg much at all. Though the new wife comes with a newer model D.

I've loved the C2 since the first time I laid eyes on one at half-time of a Kansas basketball game... it only took me two days to find one to work out on after that and any fitness center without one wouldn't get a dime of my $'s.

I must confess that there was a 8 year lapse when mine did little but collect dust... but fortunately we were able to resume our affair where we left off (albeit a bit slower than before).

At this point, I can't imagine life without a C2 and all the incredible motivation provided by the online log, challenges, teams, honor board, this forum, training partners, etc., etc., etc.....

Jim

But not the erg... they're all the bloody same and were originally designed as an excuse for a rowing boat anyway.

Roland Baltutis

I love my erg, I think she is beautiful, not as beautiful as the girlfriend but still beautiful. I think its the greatest thing I have ever bought (I didnt buy the girlfriend). I have a huge amount of respect for it and I know that even if I stop competing and racing on the erg I will always use it (or its replacement whenever that may be) as I believe it to be the greatest exercise machine in the world. Im at work and I miss her now.............the girlfriend, not the erg, OK then......the erg .

By the way Roland..

I notice that you are based in Melbourne - lovely place, I used to work there years ago. I worked in Sydney as well but much prefer Melbourne. Did you ever row on the Yarra? Lovely river, although shame its so 'brown'.

Cheers
RichardT

Love? Hate? Disgust? Pain? Torture? Yes, but it keeps us coming back for more.

Although it can't touch my relationship with my wife, it never says no, has a headache, etc. It's a simple relationship, until you add this forum. Then we have to talk about it. And there are certain elements that we'll never understand and don't make any sense whatsoever to us. Hmm...the parallels are interesting.

It's a love-hate thing.

Nothing from Mr. Rupp yet?? Looking forward to his wisdom on this.

I'd love it, if I had one!
I can't love those I use in the gym, as they are quite poorly maintained, but compared to my erg starts (with mechanical ergs in the early 80's), there has been a great improvement (I really HATED erging until a couple of years ago).
I must also say, that the relationships towards erging somehow changes by the means of this forum...

When I row I don't look at the brown water because I'm too busy perving at the scantly clad girls walking or jogging along its banks. I'm not the only one because I often hear the cox of a boat yelling to its crew "eyes in the boat". Now if I could experience that on the erg I could start to love it....... but sadly the erg doesn't go anywhere when you row and all you see are the walls around you. How can you love that?

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis

Here are a few reasons

1) It's great for overall fitness and there are so many training programs available.

2) C2 is a good company. There are incentives, challenges, and friendly competition if you want.

3) I can work on fitness and technique at the same time when I use Xeno Muller's training DVD's. I like all four. Xeno's enthusiasm is contagious. Same for Lucas. I find the upper body workout particularly challenging.

4) The C2 is easy to maintain.

5) I don't hate bad weather days any more. I can always erg.

6) I've never caught a crab or flipped on the C2.

Byron
