When you're in your 70's, what does it matter?
I am a bit of a gym rat, but don't go mad. The workout I do is usually between 5k and 12.5k on the rower, power plate for a massage, about 11 abs, some weight curls, presses, pulls and then 30 to 60 mins on the bike. Nothing too heavy, just steady. If I keep my pulse rate down it seems to work. As I said, I can sometimes burn 2lbs a day, but at nearly 18 stones, there's a lot to work at. If I put my mind to it I WILL lose 6lbs a week, and yes, I do eat - too much, sometimes - but cutting out a lot of carbs is the main thing that helps. I don't go Atkin's diet mad, but again, as I said, don't knock it till you've tried it.

Getting lighter is not losing fat in the short run. If you go low carb from eating normal weightsloss in the first week is big, but mostly water/glycogen. What you lose in the second week is a lot more to tye point.

I am now 2 stone down on what I was in January, but that's not with being on a diet, just eating sensibly with a few pints in between. Quite a few pints. I've lost a hell of a lot of fat from the belly area, so something's working. Shirts are now 2XL, not 2 FB>
