Hi everyone!
Gosh I missed a lot while on the road this past week! Looks like some people really accomplished a lot. Congrats on all the milestones!
I was in Philadelphia, the city of stinky, hot, brotherly love It was over 100 degrees with the heat index. Not good for a Scottish girl like me but I did get the opportunity to have a lovely supper with an Italian friend that teaches at a college there. It was great to spend time with her and Philadelphia has some really great restaurants I got home yesterday but decided I would wait until today to get back on the erg. I was feeling rested and a wee bit spunky so I set my sights on 15k and I did it! I will admit my bum was starting to get numb with 3k to go but I stuck it out and finished with just a few tiny pauses to wipe the sweat off my face. It felt great to finish and I don't feel any the worse for wear. I experimented with my technique and learned a few things in doing so. My fitness level is still terrible so my heart rate goes way up when I increase the length (or is it distance?) of my drive. I am still not certain of vernacular so maybe someone can correct me. I can't maintain that drive for really long periods because I get too winded but I did learn my range can be much better.
My dad used to call me Forest Gump 20 years ago when I was a running machine. Rowing gives me the same peace that running gave me all those years. My mind works overtime but I am able to chill out and watch a movie without my mind racing. I am very thankful to have found this. I wonder what my pop would call me now on the erg? I hope to tick off the half marathon in the not too distant future but I am taking the advice given. I will stick to 15k for a few weeks longer until it feels easy...then I'll give it a go.
Thanks everyone for putting a smile on my face. I don't have many friends here in Chicago so it's nice to feel a connection here.
Have a wonderful day!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hi guys
Hope you don't mind but I have joined your team. I figured I may as well introduce myself....
I am a 40 year old mum of 2 (5 year old and a 9 month old) from York (UK) who has always struggled with fitness. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember and have never been particularly good at any sort of sport. I have swam distances in the dim and distant past but not for a long long time.
Anyway a couple of years ago I decided enough was enough and I started to use a personal trainer. 3 months later I fell pregnant!! However, I trained as much as I could through pregnancy and since giving birth to my gorgeous daughter have really stepped up training. I feel my body shape has changed and my fitness levels have improved massively. Through my pt I discovered I loved (and was reasonably) good at indoor rowing. That was it I have been thoroughly bitten by the bug and have set myself a challenge to row 1million metres this season.
Joined this team as I was reading through this thread and thought you all sound like a friendly bunch. Plus i love the idea of rowing into space as a team!! Hope you don't mind having a complete novice in it!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Welcome, Cheryl !!! I know you'll make your million. As far as novices go, funny thing about rowing ... no matter how many meters have gone by, it seems everyone remains a novice.
Way to knock out the 15, Taylor. Regarding the posterior ... K2 knows a lot of tricks in that department, bubble wrap, etc. I'm more of a whittler, myself, but the big meter folks know all the tricks. Ed, did you end up trying out that tractor seat attachment? You will definitely not be transitioning from Forest Gump to Sorest Rump.

Welcome to new teammate Cheryl ! We wish you many good erging sessions and much good camaraderie! About that first million....you are easily on track to complete this by end of this year's erging season. In fact, should you happen to get truly caught up in this space traveling mania....you could give yourself quite the Christmas present....
And to support all the meter mania we all enjoy, the first of the biggie team challenges is set to start just FOUR days from now! Get signed on for the Luna-Tics Fall Challenge Team and clear your calendar! What a great way to save money as you devote your "spare" time to erging. Heh heh heh....you think I'm kidding!
Meanwhile, Pedal the Plains grows closer! I'll have to throw some erging meters into my meter piggy bank soon since biking has taken over temporarily. Last year's ride was a tribute to the Pony Express, and this year's ride is centered around the Santa Fe Trail, and the farms and ranches of southeastern Colorado. The century riders (day 2) will tack on forty more miles than the rest of us as they go visit the Comanche National Grassland area. Not planning on this, but if the carrot is good enough....I've read about the Grassland's Picketwire Canyon and all the dinosaur tracks there. The concept of something being like 150 million years old....whoa. 1300 tracks preserved there of Brontosaurs and Allosaurs (these were top of the food chain). I'm interested in far too many things. And we have our own Dinosaur Ridge site here near Morrison CO...a popular cycling route.

Welcome Cheryl. As Danwho was saying. Novice? Well another buddy of mine says, rowing is great because you can learn it in a day and spend the rest of your life perfecting it. I row a fair amount and I’m not even close yet.
I hope you will be happy here. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have cumulated as many meters as I have if it weren’t for the wonderful folks here in this team.
Put in some meters, change your body, have a few laughs and enjoy life.
As the song says, Life Rows On. Well, close enough.
Well Taylor, I may not have been going at blistering speeds but I sure had blisters on my caboose. I went with the reasonably inexpensive option and bought 2 seat pads from C2. I only need one at a time though. I know there are others who use 2 stacked. There are also some more expensive seat pads out there butt I haven’t tried them. I did not find a towel worked for me.
Have fun folks and
Keep On Rock’n

I haven't used it yet - I have it at home, will install on my home machine in November. If I like will bring back with me to Qatar. I really hope I like it...

Hi, Scoops, and welcome. My PGBs (princess grand babies) turned 2, and 6 y/o, last week. The elder (albeit, tall and long-legged) one pulled a few thousand meters, over the past year or so; and is already looking forward to our reindeer oriented Holiday Challenge, and virtual NYE team party. Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hi all,
I'll ride the coattails of the other newbies and introduce myself, though I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now. Love the camaraderie I see in this team.
I'm a 43-year-old Missourian, slightly overweight and looking to change that. Have been battling an arthritic spine, which has limited my ability to consistently engage in many activities I'd been doing for fitness (martial arts, dance, running). Thus the "slightly overweight" part! Thus far the spine seems to be taking well to erging, though I generally fare much better when I do evening sessions vs. my preferred morning sessions.
In July, I started using the erg at my gym. I'm hooked. Purchased my own C2 model D several weeks ago so I don't have to wait for the one erg to become free (seriously? They could buy 4 more for the price of the Jacob's ladder that nobody uses!).
I'm not yet at the point where I'm following any consistent training plan. Going more for gradual endurance and building core strength as a foundation for possible later training for speed. I'm doing this as a lifestyle habit, not for competition.

Morning, noon, night. It's all good meters. Welcome. I am loving all these new people joining up! You build that core and feel great. I row in the morning but now and then I get the ERG to row before bed too.ingtwai wrote:Hi all,
