ImageI finally made it to the top of half dome, I tried this hike 20 years ago only have a knee go out as I almost reached the sub dome so didn't get to do the cables. This time my knee decided it was done playing nice while I was on the sub dome, but I ignored it till I got up the cables, I was too close to not finish. The pain going back down was one thing, but getting to the top overrides everything, what a great experience and incredibly beautiful place. The knee is much better after a few days off, I am going to test today on the rower and hope it holds up. BG if I had your knees this probably wouldn't have been an issue :) Welcome to the team TaShaw, and good luck on your goals.

Image Fall Team Challenge....less than 2 weeks away!

Wowzer, mates! Taylor's singing her Christmas wish song "all I want for Christmas is my first million meters...." and we've got a few Challenges coming up that are ever so accomodating in their ability to help her, and each of us, reach our goals! PaRowlympics, Fall Team Challenge, followed by the Skeleton Crew Challenge, and then the BIGGIE ...the Holiday Challenge...all of these help us have some fun while we save our meters in our meter piggy banks. The journey to each million, and especially the first one ever, is what we're all about as we continue our intergalactic travels!

And welcome to new teammate William C - we wish you many good hours of erging and great camaraderie!

I think I signed up for the Fall Team Challenge. I can't figure out how to see the list of those Lunes that also joined. Maybe I can't until the challenge begins. Anyway, folks join up and let's make some meters together!
On the row again.
Making meters with my friends
I can't wait to get on the row again.
Ok, so I skipped a few lines of the song. What do I look like Willy or something? I just read his book It's a long story. I found it quite interesting. His guitar is named Trigger. Mine are Crash thanks to the airlines, They did replaced it. Whity is the electric and of course Jean is the new replaced Taylor. Jean Taylor was my first teacher at the blind school and a wonderful person.
The no dope Thor.

I am slammed with work right now but my attention span is a hot mess. While I should be doing ROI calcs for a major hotel project I am working on, my mind is actually calculating how many meters I can realistically row between Sept 15 & Oct 15 given how many days I will be traveling for work  September 15th is actually my 56th birthday so I will meet this challenge with a vengeance. I am certain I can get 100k but if I can find extra time I will shoot for more. Is there anything in particular that I need to do to sign up for this next challenge or do I just start rowing? Thanks everyone.

Yes, there is something you need to do to sign up for the Challenge. When you are next in your logbook, scroll across the top to where it says teams. Scroll down to Challenges and there will be a place that you have to indicate that you are participating in the Fall Challenge. Shows up as bottom right on my screen. The World Erg Challenge data is from last year. Once the Fall Team Challenge starts, you will be able to see how many teammates are signed up to participate. We had a good meter haul last year, yet each year is different and each Challenge team is different.

One way to figure out a realistic number to be able to row or ski-erg for a Challenge is to just add 10 or 15 minutes to the time you were going to row or ski-erg on a specific day. Whatever meters that generates, it's the extra that you're adding. Your goal is between you and your erging machine! When I'm trying to establish what my meter minimum needs to be to reach my goal (usually the Holiday Challenge or the January Virtual Team Challenge), I always divide that total by two or three fewer days than there really are. Everyone needs a break, and things just happen...so it's better to build a higher number based on a couple of fewer days instead of stressing. We will look for some number that has a 56 in it for September 15th. You will do an awesome job on the Challenge no matter how many meters you crank.

Thank you...I signed up and got confirmation. Tonight I rowed 5k non-stop in two separate sessions and managed it without much difficulty so hoping to go for 10k next weekend if I feel strong after being on the road 4 days this coming week for work. I will be home a total of 15 days during the Fall Challenge so I am certain I can mange 100k. I am soooooo excited. I feel like I might have finally found something to fill the void of not being able to run any more. This makes me happy :D

Image Well I guess Doug's knee felt all right since he mooned us with a half marathon yesterday! Doug, I want to know how long you sat up there on your rocky perch. I would imagine that this might be a popular photo spot for those who have climbed the Half Dome...and on any given day, not sure how many others you might encounter there, or on the way there...each vying for the photo op that represents so many hours of preparation. Plus you have to get someone to take the photo....

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

450 K Danno...he's ramping it up for the Fall and Beyond!
100 K Mikkel

Thanks, everyone, for rowing and ski-erging with us!

Mikkel 2,000 m
K2 2,056 m
Steve3 W 2,222 m
William C 2,704 m
Dan O' 4,548 m
Matthew R 5,019 m
Rick 5,943 m
Jeff M 6,030 m
Danno 7,000 m
Kevin 8,000 m
Ron 9,229 m ...ok. It took me a couple days to see that Ron was creating a palindrome out of the date....a September palindrome!
Virginia 10,000 m
bg 10,063 m
Tombeur 11,246 m
Thor 12,083 m
Taylor 20m,000 m
Image Doug 21,097 m...over the moon with his Half Dome experience successfully completed!

And completing a Challenge, whether Concept2 related or one like Doug's, sometimes results in buying the tee shirt. Not sure how often any of us looks at the merchandise for sale at Concept2. Mostly we want to win it or earn it. Still. I chose one of their Fun Flywheel tee shirts instead of a cafepress item this summer - they work well for workouts, and they're kind of a cool design. Just sayin' - you have options...and they are very comfy shirts. http://shop.concept2.com/39-t-shirts

Yippee! 10k completed this morning straight through! I was slow as molasses but I kept my heart rate at 123 and made it through. I started feeling tired the last 2k but not bad at all. Tomorrow I am going for 15k. If I can handle that I will try for the 1/2 marathon next weekend when I get home from Philadelphia on Friday. :D

Hi Luna-tics,
I am a new member. I believe I'm the only member from land locked South Dakota. I am looking forward to chatting with you. Taylor Shaw encouraged me to join.
Cheers!

Welcome Sodakbeer, I've made a few trips up to Minnesota, and always run through your neck of the woods when I do. Love stopping at the Terry Redlin Museum when I'm not pressed for time.
K2, I didn't spend but a couple minutes on that perch, and I had a friend take the pic. quite a few people do take a pic from there, and there was a couple guys pushing it to the edge, standing as far to the edge as you could possibly get, perhaps a little over exuberant. I am thrilled I don't seem to have any lasting knee problem.

Doug G,
Quite a picture! What a thrill! I have never been to Yosemite, but have it on my bucket list. I was able to make a day trip to Yellowstone last year that was great! I even got to see a goose in a stroller at Old Faithful - crazy world sometimes! I will post a picture if I can figure out this forum.
Cheers!
