Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Oh awesome jack. Thanks for explaining that to me. I have been going over the thread on my phone since I'm working nights and must have missed that. I would very much like to join. I will get on my computer tomorrow and read everything more clearly so I don't miss anything. I'm going out of town this weekend so not sure if I can get three days in this week. I will try though.

Would either a 5k or 6x500m be possible? I'd say do the 6x500 to establish a baseline and have a great weekend. Look for you early next week if not earlier. Thanks for joining us.

I'll get the 6x500 done tomorrow to get a baseline down. I have never done intervals before so this will be interesting for sure. Thanks again.

Super! Do the first at or slightly faster than you can do a continuous 3k row and adjust to make certain you finish all six to get an average pace. More next week from the crew chief, Mike P.

10k OTW in this beast
ca. 60-80 year old. - the biber (beaver) - really belongs in a museum, but it was remodded for carbon sculls.
drives like a dream - a great skiff - very forgiving. have to love it (well mabe not the foot retainers)...

the wife also got into the funs.
hers was a fairly new indestructable, unsinkable pohlus slidding rigger... (the bluebird)
has to be the best beginner boat ever...

I'd give yourself another day's rest, doing the sessions hard back to back is a good way to burn out. I did the 3 BPP sessions Monday, Wednesday & Friday and found that was more than enough.mudgeg wrote:Legs feel very tired tonight after the 500m intervals.

Great rowing, just remember that next week the distance is 10% longer which is why in the plan Pete encourages you to take it easy, I'd avoid trying to start out next weeks 5500 at PB pace so that you make sure you finish comfortably.Phxrow wrote: Day 1: 5k - 22:15.9 23s/m 500m split at 2:13.5

If the BPP people could send me a PM (or Dean aka bisqeet) with their email address I can get you access to the area where we've been logging our times.

Wow Dean, that looks beautiful, must be great to be out on the water like that, there are a few rowing clubs within 20 miles of me, so in the Spring I will have some taster days, unfortunately not a lot of time at the moment, although if the weather is still nice in a couple of weeks I may see what is available.
Great to see so much movement in the thread, with people posting some solid results for their sessions. I am due my hard 5k+ today, but I have to drive for around 7 hours so may not be back in time/feel like it. If not I'll do it tomorrow. Probably stick with the rate limited r20 possibly going for 6k as I seemed to take an age to warm up my stroke doing the 5k even after a 10 min warm up.
@mudgeg I believe PM's stay in outboxes until they are read.

Dean, I believe the "indestructible" sliding rigger boat must be cast HDPE. Couple of Aussie concerns fabricate sculling hulls by that method. Did your wife like the sliding rigger? Did she experience any pain or discomfort from pushing the rigger aft rather than the body fwd and the boat aft.
You don't care for the moldering leather clogs in your old lovie? Stick built a fine old tradition gone but not (quite) forgotten.

she said it was weird at first - not sure what to do with her legs, but after a couple of miutes - she loved it.
very easy, the moving mass is of course lots less than the traditional sliding seat method, needing less power they are more efficient energy wise, and as results show (before being banned for competitions or declared as "non standard") much faster than the traditional rolling seat boats.
no pain, no discomfort a little weidness at the beginning (the seat is fixed)
i would definetly buy one - very easy to transport on the roof of your car - no need to dismantle the outriggers, and the shell itself is nearly indestructable - great for riding along -

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
playing a bit of catchmeup today.
first session on the erg since last week.
decided to go for the 4x2000m
Pete reccomended a target of 5000m pace +0,5s ~01:49,0 for me
1st was ok, second felt easy, 3rd was hard but doable (i drifted in the last 20meters, but would have been on target) - 4th felt bad - HD
cd a HM @2:15 HR cap ~1:35,00
