Great work everyone!

@Piers - I loved the mid-session post. I laughed out loud after reading it! Your times and rates looked pretty consistent to me and right on target given your 5X1500.

4X2000 tonight

1:43.7 25 spm
1:43.7 24 spm
1:43.6 25 spm
1:42.6 25 spm

1:43.4 25 spm average - These are hard work and it will only get more interesting the next time around...

You guys certainly are killing it. I knew I had no business joining in on the maddness. Would y'all mind if I borrow your idea and make a thread to see if there are any newer people that would like to join me in petes beginner plan? I'd like somewhere to post with people and see how our times improve as a group. I think it would be great motivation.

@ Joe - nice work! Very, very fast and strong as always. You have got to sign up for an Indoor Regatta in Chicago. The whole group, I think, would love to see what your time could be in competition.

@ Joseph - Nice work! Your Mettalica comment reminded me of yesterday. I unfortunately allowed my wife to use my playlist (I have Spotify Premium) and in the middle of the second to last set yesterday Kelly Clarkson's "Heartbeat Song" comes on. I was tempted to blow up the whole interval just to turn off that horrid song! That's what I get for allowing my wife to access (and edit) my playlist!

Barry - nice work on getting it done!

@ Kxthor - we already have 3 guys doing the PBB on this thread if you just want to join in. They are just starting week 1.

By the way, on a nice note, my dog Joey (should be) just getting a check up / mostly a clean up today. Maybe it was all the positive thoughts but he all of a sudden got much better after two really bad days. He's back to seeming like his old (just old not sick and scared) happy self. We have told the vet we're not doing the euthanasia yet and have them come to the house and clean him up, clean his nails and just help him to feel better for his last few months. Thanks for the positive thoughts on him - something sure helped. We know it's just a temporary thing (more treasured time with him) but we'll take it. We're just keeping our fingers crossed the vet doesn't scare him to death - literally. He's never had his nails trimmed before (no need when you walked him he used to be like walking a rhino).

@ Mike - great to hear about your dog - hope the vet visit goes well!

PP Cycle 1, Week 2, Day 5 - Hard Distance. I thought the best way to stop myself trying for a 5k PB every week was to not do 5k! So I did 6k. 23:17.5 (1:56.4 pace), 27 spm (rounded down!)

Image

Was aiming for <= 1:57, really happy with the overall performance and in particular the consistency, felt solid throughout. HR average of 174 and max of 185 - notably lower than last week's 5k (178/193) - I think the HR comparison of these two rows is also pretty clear in the chart below.

If I use a RHR of 54 and MHR of 196 then I'd have had 64% of todays row as TR (175-189) with 39% in the 180-184 range, 2% in 185-189 and zero AN, compared to 57% TR and 13% AN last week.

This one may leave a mark. Only second one I've done, last week the first. Ranked 81st percentile in my age bracket, which for me is pretty good at this distance. Blood, I didn't know you were doing 6K too!

Highballing thru the black hole not making it an address. Good on you, Rohan.

Not ranked but rather an informal comparison with ranked times, Glenn? For just a second, I thought you might have had an FPA (flirtation with premature accomplishment). Close call eh?

Wk2 Day 2 8000m strapless 2:08

Wk2 Day 3 4X2000m 5'
Target 1:54.4
1:54.2 r25
1:54.2 r25
1:54.1 r25
1:53.4 r25
Average 1:54.0

Those numbers make it look like a much more controlled session than it was, very heavy legs today and was starting to have HD thoughts after 2nd rep. Tried experimenting with a more "strapless" technique, fast hands, higher rate etc but the pace just went up and I couldn't sustain it and slowing down seemed to mean bad habits coming back, more technique work required I think as it did feel better if I can control the rate a bit better.

Great stuff there Glenn!

Yeah - think I actually decided after the 5k last week that another distance was called for - I don't recall seeing the results of your 6k from last week - may have missed it in the large volume of posts, or maybe I did, didn't remember it, but it subconsciously effected my decision for today! When you say may leave a mark I assume this means the was a pretty tough one for you? Looks like a slightly higher SPM than you'll often sport yeah? If I recall correctly without actually checking the post your 4x2,000 a couple of days back were only at about 25?

Mine (4X2K) were at 29, so I actually had a lower SPM today than I did in that session.

@ Jack - thanks Jack - I'm pretty happy with how settled my HR seemed in the 180-184 range at this pace - no doubt over a longer distance it may get higher but there's always the subsequent weeks to find that out...

@ John your numbers make it look like a very controlled session indeed! Defo an outcome you should be happy with even if the path there was uglier than you'd hoped!

Hell yes I ranked it! Might not do one of those again any time soon.

Blood, I am experimenting with higher rates as a way to actually finish a 5-6k! I have trouble staying with them and finishing. Dang near talked myself out of this one a couple of times. It was a tough session for me and it might be awhile until the time comes down more! I'm calling it a PB ( feels weird since I've only done two of these, but it's my best one)! BTW - good session by you. Probably a smart one too.

John A., strong set by the book. I initially interpreted that you literally did them strapless. Retaning the strapless technique emphases makes more sense.
