The Mini-Incline at Castle Rock

If that's the MINI Incline, I'd hate to consider their medium or large Inclines!
Makes my knees sting, just looking at that image; and imagining the down slope on the flip side.

I think it's called MINI because it is 200 steps vs 2,744 steps of the Manitou Incline

200 timber steps that climb 178 feet in elevation ..and the Manitou Incline is described as "The once railroad track now consists of approximately 2,744 steps made entirely of railroad ties! Although it's only one mile in length, the ascension averages a 41% incline (68% at its highest) and a 2,000 foot climb in elevation!" After mountain biking one trail that was a 1000 ft increase in elevation over a mile...this sounds a bit tougher....considered extreme hiking...

yikes!!!!! and imho, going dow would be really scary :] but very intriguing

Should you have the INCLINation to climb the inclines, usually the way down isn't the same as the way up just to avoid the traffic jams and to put different pressure on already stressed joints, etc. The one at Manitou that is the biggie incline has a hiking route down. I'm not sure about the mini, but would expect that it was the same. bg is right - it would be a yikes scenario with a tumbling person taking out others - kind of like a bunch of bowling pins....there's a visual !

Lots of busy today, so I'm obviously late with the numeric report out and all that. I did take a quick look this morning and saw that Mike, Norma and AJ had joined the other Dogs of Summr...and like bunnies, that population of finishers has more than doubled since this morning. Bill, David A, Ken G, Stuart, Louis and Tombeur are now also on the Honorboard. Wowzer, mates...you've been busy!

14 Lunies are barking...having been admitted into the Dog Days of Summer Honorboard! Newest barkers are Ed, K2 and Kevin!

Thinking about the 100K that it takes (as a minimum) to complete the Dog Days Challenge, I am thinking ahead to the 2017 Holiday Challenge (not forgetting the Fall Team Challenge!). The Holiday Challenge will require 200K to get the coveted Holiday Challenge pin...a collectible item that we never quite know what to do with, but we want it ! Adjust your schedules, Lunies, the biggie Challenges are heading our way.

And since we are stepping right up to get these Challenges done, the tale of the stairs/steps/inclines continues! Red Rocks Amphitheater has been featured on the team forum pages before as one of the Colorado must see icons! The venue is called the only naturally occurring acoustically perfect amphitheater in the world. It's 75 years old this year, and musicians still long to play here. One of the groups that played at Red Rocks, fifty years ago yesterday, was The Beatles. Fittingly, there is a band called 1964 The Tribute that recreates the British invasion and resultant change in the music scene and sound, and they were playing at Red Rocks last night. There's nothing quite like Red Rocks music at night with the city of Denver shimmering in the distance...unless, of course, it's Red Rocks in the daytime when many people visit to do their workouts on the venues twin sets of approximately 380 steps. There is a ramp for easier access, but it was closed last night due to a current medical emergency when we first arrived...so I had the opportunity to visit the 380 steps. A few years ago, I had to stop multiple times and catch my breath, get the heart rate back in the more normal rate range. Last night, not so much! Rowing is good for us! Elevation there is about 6500 ft.




If you run all the rows side to side, it's 2.5 miles....whew!


Not a surprise that many of us had phones out taking photos of the venue!
