Question from relatively new rower

Post by Rower4001 » August 25th, 2016, 2:45 pm

Im 16 years old female, and over the past few months ive managed to drop from 12 stone to 11st 3lbs . We had a small break from rowing during summer , about a month and a half. In that time I went to the gym 5-6 days a week , did weight training ( i work hard and lift heavy enough weight) and picked up my cardio(not on the erg) . when i came back to rowing I expected my fitness and strength to be much improved on the erg. but my erg ability has deteriorated by about 8-10 seconds and im struggling to use the machine for more then 10 minutes at a time. i started back 2 days ago . My question is will my strength and fitness come back quickly with more practice on erg or is it because i lost a good amount of weight im struggling?

I really want to improve in rowing and have dedicated most of my summer to increasing my overall fitness for the sport and its disapoinnting to see no results.

Don,t worry. Fitness is specific, you erged less, so your erg fitness has gone down. It will come back and you will soon be better than before. Simply keep on working and have a bit of fitness. And don,t forget, enjoy your training :D
