It is a podcast that you listen to. I too would have preferred to read it to get to the parts that interested me, but it requires a listen. Good stuff though.

Phaller has a super high intensity, high rating and still keeps 1.18 on his last stroke, and no way falls of the erg.Shawn Baker wrote:Phaller 1:18 last stroke on 500- crossfit guys ;Khalipa - on the floor after 500
The only 500 of Khalipa I know of was not very serious. Plus crossfitters are very small, 5.10 Khalipa? And did he not talk right after that one? If so, you are not really tired.

STUPID PM5.... anyway,left coaster wrote:100m = 15.5 @ 1:17.9.
A small improvement over my pb, will jot this down for the August c2c and go after the 200 next.
200m = 32.1 @ 1:20.2
First PB attempt at this right after the 100. Might be able to shave a tenth or two so I'll try again tomorrow.
For some reason my PM5 is adding 1/10th to my times when I press memory -- has anyone else had this happen? My 200m was actually 32 sec flat when I stopped rowing but was recorded as memory in the PM5 as 30.1...
Pulled the 100 again because the numbers didn't make sense. The saved time is still 15.5 but the split is 1:17.5 which adds up way better when I recalculate it online. I'm thinking it's doing some rounding math when the event is saved because it was 15.3 before I pressed save.
200m = 31.5 @ 1:18.7 (saved score), that's better and just .5 sec off my 100m time/pace.
I'll let this and the 1:17.5 100m pace stand for the c2c. Going in to the last 2 distances I have a total of 2:36.2 for the first 2, leaving 2:53.8 to complete the 300 and 400 (1:26.9 average) to stay under 5:30 total (my initial goal). Thinking I may come out a bit below 5:30, we'll see.
100m: 15.5, 1Min: 353, 500m: 1:29, 5K: 19:41.2, 10K: 40:46

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
There seems to be a major problem with the PM for the very short distances. In Shawn's recent reports, the pictures of his PM show a tenth of a second difference between the overall result and the interval display. In the one that I just checked, the picture doesn't include the PM number, so I don't know if it is a 5 or not. When the are several intervals in a piece, it is not unreasonable for the overall result to differ just a bit from the average of the intervals as a result of roundoff, but it is strange to see it happen in a single interval piece.

Henry- point is that some guys definitely flop around on the ground as a largely unnecessary spectacle- Pfallers 2k- 5:52- breathing hard but stays on erg- I've definitely had the "drowning" feeling after hard 1 minute all out efforts on airdyne bike- feels like you're having an asthma attack for about 2 minutes, but don't flail around on the ground like some kind of dying fish
Maybe a new thread -to flop or not to flop!

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
I think it depends, very aerobic fit people simply stay relative fresh. I once saw a German guy in Essen pull a 5.48 in the heats, forgot his name, he did not even stop at the finish, but paddled on. Later I sat next to him in the warm up area and talked a bit. And he told me he was not even fully fit and had a cold....Shawn Baker wrote:Henry- point is that some guys definitely flop around on the ground as a largely unnecessary spectacle- Pfallers 2k- 5:52- breathing hard but stays on erg- I've definitely had the "drowning" feeling after hard 1 minute all out efforts on airdyne bike- feels like you're having an asthma attack for about 2 minutes, but don't flail around on the ground like some kind of dying fish![]()

I myself, even with a gun to my head can,t speak for minutes after a race 2k.
Other race, I once raced a belgium pair of brothers, who went of like a rocket, half an hour after the race on of them was still lying on a bench. It simply depends, peoples physic differ, and some can themselves harder. I think most people can,t fully pull 100%. Even our top guy in Holland, never fully pulled full 100%. Only once he had competition he could fully give everything and pulled a 3/4 second pb. And yes, both where flat out on the floor after a low 5.40..

Still, I think you see "floppers" doing it so people think they really pushed it- just like soccer players faking injuries etc...

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
After a true all-out effort like a 2k test I tend to get off the erg and onto my hands and knees asap and just chill there for a bit. That way if I did pass out or whatever I won't have far to fall and if I did spew it wouldn't make too much mess! (Never happened yet). Then after a minute or so I'll sit back on and paddle for a bit.
There's that recent video of Cameron Nichol doing a 6:30 2k while talking throughout the whole thing and hardly more than normal breathing at the end.
The lady who ran the 10k WR at the Olympics on Saturday looked like she was ready to go again as soon as she crossed the line.

Didn't Cameron Nichol say at the end of the video he doesn't want to see people 'rolling around on the floor' afterwards and that they should be doing some gentle up and down the slide either with the handle held by the legs or without the handle just to make sure that you warm down properly.

The 6.30 guy is a sub 6 man, so ofcourse it was easy for him.aussieluke wrote:After a true all-out effort like a 2k test I tend to get off the erg and onto my hands and knees asap and just chill there for a bit. And the 10k is, nonsense offcourse. 10k is simply very aerobic and she was not pushed at all, so did not fully dig to the bitter end. Everything about the talk around this 10k pisses me off. Normaly the races are in crappy conditions, now for once it was ideal, cool/rainy. Her run was fully in line with her other performances, and the wr 10k now finally is in line with the 5k and mans 10k. And not only she but more or less the whole field pb d, including 5 or 6 new nat. Records. Simply a great result from a super runner in superb conditions.
Look after the multievents, here you see non aerobicly trained athletes, half the field is down after the 800/1500.
