Hi everyone! I just thought that I should introduce myself. I am Shannon, currently a member of the Ducks in a Row, but I am joining The Eh Team for the January virtual challenge. Go Canada!

I am also joining the team for the Cross Team Challenge. I rowed a 6,000 metre race today. It was awful and I'm sure I wouldn't have finished if I hadn't been doing it online. I started way too fast and as a result was way too slow in the middle! . Oh well, I got a one tenth of a second PB and now all we need is one more rower to complete the first Eh Team boat at the CTC site! And if there are any more Canadian women out there that want to join in, go for it! I wouldn't mind at all being relegated to the Eh Team II boat if that meant that the first boat was faster. As many rowers as we want can compete, it doesn't have to be just five people.

By the way, Brian great row! I am totally amazed at your times. John and I were really hoping you would join up to compensate for us slower folks!

Shannon (from the Yukon)

14k for me - dec 27
8x500 with lots of rest in between. My work pace for the 500 was slower than Brian's for his 6k's (1:46-1:49 for anyone who is interested).

Keep on rowin', I'll update the website later.

Jim

G'day everyone!

Dec. 27 - 11K total

40' WP level 4 @ 2:19, 16 SPM
6' active recovery
1K sprint @ 1:45/500
4' active recovery

I'm going to give the 6K a try before year's end; one thing holding me back has been trying to figure out what would be a suitable pace to shoot for. Then I remembered someone sharing a pace predictor a while back. It works pretty neat - just enter at least two PB's and the spreadsheet pumps out a range of predicted scores for all the other distances.

Good morning - Add 8k for me today -- at a facility closer to home than my health club, called Variety Village. It serves special needs adults and children with physical challenges as well as the broader community. Keeps it all in perspective. So, add Variety Village with a C2 C (needing some oil!) to 'ergs i have seen'!!

Rowgirl

I work with special needs adults up here in Whitehorse and we could use a facility like that! Although there is one health club here in town that has gone out of it's way to support people with special needs (and they have 2 ergs!)

Joe Bishop has entered his time at the CTC website, so now we have our first full boat!!! I'd love to see 2 (or more?) full boats there, but now we're in the water! So lets push the envelope and get some more Canadian Content!

UPDATE: Joe just did another 6k, 22:26! Our first boat is now within 3 seconds of the next boat. Way to go Joe!!!

8,861 for me today -- a combination of pre-set distances and time, hence the odd number! Just to to keep you on your toes...

Rowgirl

I'm going to try to do a 6k again tomorrow, so we'll see .

Yesterday 12/28 I couldn't get on to the forum, something about the bandwith being used up? Anyway I rowed 7K including 9 - 15second bursts starting at 1:47 and increasing by one second each time (every 500 meters.)

Francois, how is your back coming along?

Eh! Team II has officially hit the water - I just did my first ever 6K @ 24:24.4. Hardly a blistering pace, but who cares right? The way I see it, that's about 24' more exercise than most people.

John and Shannon, I've been inspired by your aliases - I am now "manitobamoose" on the UK site.

QUOTE(jetwbt @ Dec 29 2005, 12:29 PM)

Mark, Thanks for the pace predictor. Prediction 6 worked out to be the "line of best fit" for my PB's. Anyone else playing with this?

Brian

I've only entered three PB's (500, 1K, 2K) in the calculator, but #6 is the most accurate for me as well. In fact, my times under #6 are exactly the same as my actual times.

Enjoy your day!

Mark

We made it to Nova Scotia on Dec 29, 2005. Way to row', hosers. That's 7 provinces down, 2 go. (Our route does not take us through PEI).

Keep on rowin',

Jim

Hello all,

Freezing rain here. I've all picked up an extra gift from one of my sons (head cold), so I can't get up for the trip into town to row. Someday I'll get budget approval for an erg..

I've had a look at the predictor. Based on my 10k & 5k times, (both which could be better because I'm still new to this and so far haven't been willing to make myself hurt for longer than 7:46+), I've been given some times to shoot for.

I put a half hour on the rollers yesterday. That's the cyclists version of going nowhere while training! Maybe tomorrow.

Cheers,

Kirk

Welcome Carol Glad to have you aboard!!!

5k today with a few pickups.

There is a whole lot of good info. on technique, damper settings, etc. at this link on the UK site. http://www.concept2.co.uk/forum/viewtop ... 436
(Scroll down to Joh Foy's post)
I learned a lot and I've only read about 1/2 of it. It's probably the wrong place to try this stuff out with just a short easy row today but I'm going to try a few things I learned when I time trial it tomorrow. Talk about learning on the fly .

Good to see you in one of our boats at the Uk site Mark! It's too bad that we got into this so late in the month, not much time to make improvements. Oh well, there is always next month and the month after that and. . . . .

PS Great name MM
