Indeed, the lower rating after speeding up, showns there s more room if you use that stroke from the start.

After reading the problems that G-dub had with the 5k I was apprehensive, and I didn't really settle into it tell the last 1000m when I knew I would complete in a time I was fairly happy with. In fact the last 1000m was easily my best, I actually engaged with the stroke with the lower rate ensuring that I had to feel my core set, rather than just flapping about... There is more to come, not a huge amount but if I could get the feeling I had in the last 1000m for the whole piece at a slightly higher rate I'd be very happy.
Good effort - onwards and upwards!!

Yup, I know. I'm just waiting for it all to get much, much harder and the trepidation to set in every time I go for a PB knowing the existing one is a good approximation of my ability. Looking at my old training diary from ~10 years ago when I was doing erging there are some aborted PB attempts in there or ones that mysteriously turn into a different session half way through when I realise it's not "on". I *think* I'm mentally tougher this time round now though - mainly from 6 years of competitive cycling creating a more robust mindset.

Nice one Pie Man! It's a good feeling when you get into one and are able to get beyond the part of wanting to drop the handle and bring it all the way into the barn!

I've had some foot pain recently so prior to today I've only erged on 1 out of the last 4 days. Wanted to get back on it today and went for 60mins. I knew I could get 15500m even though I only felt OK (bit rusty) and certainly nowhere near as good as when I PBed at 10K last week - this time 1:56s instead of 1:54s were feeling comfortable but with 20mins to go I started seeing alot of 1:57s so the average was <15500, but a strong last 5mins saw me get the distance over 15550m. So, more there if I was feeling good I think, but pleased nonetheless. Occasionally, I get a real feeling of my heart/lungs being "worked over" afterwards with aerobic sport (inflammation?) and today was one of those days. Onwards!

This was actually a submaximal effort but the previous PB was soft. I just wish I'd made the decision to get over 8000m earlier as I left it too late. Schoolboy error. DF 122. Definitely making rapid gains as 1:53s felt metronomic today.

Tim, I genuinely hope you do. I know how frustrating it can be when the body lets you down and the mind is strong and you just want to crack on. Look forward to you posting some good results fella...

Just fulfilled my target 2k in 6:35.3. http://log.concept2.com/rankings/detail ... al/1076802. Absolutely not an easy goal at reaching the final 500 m. A few times I thought, I quit, I can not complete within 6:39:9. Previous attempts went much easier. A few weeks ago I promised myself to reach for a new personal best on 2k before going on holiday. I did not have the best preparation. Had to skip a few training sessions because of belly problems. So finally I tried to compensate these by doing some power sessions like 5 x 0:30 max on 200 drag factor with 2 minutes rest in between, with the believe to increase strength and it would be easier to maintain my 2k target pace 1:38. Probably that helped just a little.

I started rowing this year. I have been running and cycling whole my life, but had never the same level of self-competition as with rowing now. I like the feeling being fit. Although running still gives me the greatest feeling of freedom, the erging suites me physically much better. I'm way to heavy build for running and therefore reaching very soon injuries.

So now that I'm already planning my next goals, this year under 6:30, next year under 6:25 and at the age of 55, maybe under 6:20. I beleave when I give my upper body enough time to build more strength, while maintaining my endurance, this will be possible.

Nice work Sjors, stay ambitious. 6.20 at 55 would be pretty impressive.

Impressive stats in your profile. Have you entered them in the nonathlon? http://www.nonathlon.com

Ah! I should I checked first. I see that you have already. All of them over 900 - very good. Completing that missing 30' piece would probably get you into the top 15 overall and in the top 7 of those who have done all but the marathon. In fact, since your 5k and 6k are your best score, it could be the top 10 and 5. The middle distances seem to be your strong area.

Fantastic for such a short period of rowing!
